I have stayed at the hotel several times for the convenient location to Universal. I was happy with the room and the desk staff. One major drawback is the parking lot attached to the hotel. We payed for self-parking and was not told to keep our room key to get out of the parking lot after we checked out. (Does anyone save those??) We were stuck in line trying to get out. With vehicles stacking up behind us, we just gave up and paid ANOTHER $20 to get out. I went to the hotel front desk to get my money back and was told the manager would call me the next day to credit my account. Which of course, he did not. $20 is not alot of money to stress about, but if I can save some other unsuspecting person the hassle, it's worth it.

Everything is an extra charge. $10/day for in-room Internet. Daily parking fee. Outrageous prices on room service; better food at Carraba's two blocks away. My wife and I tried lounging out by the pool between meetings, but a very loud diesel-powered machine - a trash compactor I suspect - ran non-stop right next to the patio for an hour. I noticed all the fire hoses have been removed from the wall-mounted fire-fighting stations. Certainly makes one feel safe. I own my own company and can pay what I want; I will never stay in another Double Tree. I feel ripped off.

We stayed 2 nights. The location is great, near Universal. Hotel is large with nearby restaurants. Seemed a bit isolated, but that is probably the Universal effect. Room was good, nice size. Overall, this would be a 4 or 5 rating except the following: 1) They PUSH their vacation club/time share non-stop. We had to walk by the desk every time we used the elevator and they always engage you in conversation trying to capture your attention. Then, they leave messages on your phone twice a day. I was afraid to use the elevator and tried to dodge the sales people. They do not take a hint. 2) Fees! Nine bucks to park when other hotels charge zero. But, they charge $3 per day to use the in-room safe. It is nothing special, same as all hotels. But 3 dollars. No free in-room internet, 10 bucks a day. Lobby has free hotspots though. 3) Valet parkers are pretty rude when you don't use them and instead park your car (for 9 bucks a day) about 20 feet beyond where they are standing. Parking is great and close to the front doors. The parking is actually worth the fee since it is lit and seen from front. To finalize the stay, they locked out my room key before I left (6am). Well, you can't leave the parking lot without the key. Several others had the same problem. Minor, but an annoyance when you have 18 hour drive ahead of you. In the end, a great hotel that is designed to rob the business traveler. If you are on vacation, look around for other deals. Some restaurants nearby, but not much else. Clean rooms and courteous staff, though they are always selling you something.

Right across the street from Universal Studios...about a 10-15 minute walk to the gates. 15 minute drive to Disney World. Easy to get to from the freeway. Hotel is clean, comfortable, safe, and secure, with adequate space in the room. Extra costs for parking ($9/day) and in-room safe ($3) with no free breakfast (unless you are an Hhonors Gold member). Nice views from most of the twin tower rooms. Overall good experience.
