We chose the Stratosphere because our friends' wedding party was staying there and the wedding dinner was there. Naturally one has to walk through a smoky casino to get anywhere in the hotel. Since the distances are large, that's a lot of walking through smoke. There's a surcharge for _everything_. Internet? $13/day PER DEVICE. Late checkout? $30! They tack a $7.50 "resort fee" onto every room whether or not you plan to use any resort features. Free breakfast? Don't even think about it! There's no coffee maker in the room, and no mini-fridge either. But there's a Starbucks and several gift shops in the casino! The temperature control unit is noisy. The walls seem thin. There's one and only one bargain: free valet parking.

Everything about this hotel was average. It was clean and just fine to stay here, but very plain by Vegas standards. If you can get a good deal on room rates, it is just fine. Shop around and you'll probably do a lot better.

We got to the hotel around midnight on Thurs night and to our surprise had to wait in a very long line to check in. The wait was probably around a half hour. Then we got what appeared to be a newly trained employee to check us in. She was very nice and pleasant to talk to but it took probably another 15-20 mins just to go through the whole process of checking in. To be fair, we did have 2 rooms from 2 separate reservations, but it still shouldn't have taken that long. Finally, we get our keys and we go to our rooms. Wait a second, this doesn't look like Newly Remodeled Strat Select rooms that we had reserved. It looks pretty old and dingy and nothing like we had seen in the pictures. Oh my god, there's a smoke detector hanging off the wall! So we called the front desk and complained. So we had to go back downstairs (with all of our luggage) and talked to the supervisor who finally got us the rooms we had originally reserved. At long last, we had made it to our rooms. After all the travelling and trouble with checking in, we had no more energy for gambling or drinking like we had planned.

It was an enjoyable stay. The hotel and casino are alive and well. The energy level was good and it was a fun place to be. The only down side for me was problems with the room that are probably to be expected with a building of that age and that size. The bathroom sink had problems with the basin stopper, the shower head needs to be replaced, and a light bulb would constantly flicker. I can't complain too much because we never asked for any of these to be fixed, so we don't know how responsive they would have been. We didn't spend enough time in the room to worry about it. There was no view, which we expected based on other reviews. Overall, the staff was friendly and they provided a fun environment. We liked our stay.
