I think the money we spent on cabs would have been better spent on a hotel closer to the strip. However, the hotel did have a very nice restaraunt and some fun activities at the top. Plus, it has a beautiful view of the city.

  • Nice Hotel but depends on what your wanting to do.

If you can imagine a striaght line down the middle of a piece of paper that is Las Vegas Blvd. The airport is at the top of the line, the Stratosphere is approximately 4-5 mi down at the bottom of the line. For me this was most convenient location of all. My 19yr old son and I chose Vegas for our annual get away, we spent most of our time hiking and rock climbing. Interstate 15 is right behind this hotel so it was a short 1 hr drive to Valley of Fire State Park. Charleston Blvd was just 1/2 mi then only 20 min to Red Rock Canyon. Hoover Dam and Lake Meade both are within 30 min and the Pawn Stars shop was 3 min. We did spend 2 days in downtown Vegas, parking is free at any of the hotels along the Blvd. It's worth it to get out and check out the other hotels and shops. The rooms at the Stratosphere were average, nothing fancy, but clean - comfortable and quiet. The casino of course is not. If possible ask for a mountain view room, there really is no view of the strip from any floor of this hotel. The staff was excellent and very helpful. Eat out of Vegas as often as possible, it is high anywhere you go at any of the hotels. Buy lots of water at a Walgreens or CVS, it's $4 a bottle in Vegas. The swimming pool was nice, more family oriented than others further down the strip. They tell you admission to the top of the Stratosphere is free to anyone that stays here, however, you are charged a $7.50 per nite "resort fee" which is of course a charge to cover your "free" admission. I didn't argue it as I was aware of it when I booked my stay. Nothing is free, Vegas is all about parting you with your money.

  • Although I am not a fan of casino hotels, it was a good place to stay to visit f

If you are not a casino fan you may be awakened middle of the night by raucous guests. that happened one of the nights.
