best budget option in SF. I lived in the area for 6 years, and stayed here when I came back to visit friends. Safe area, pretty much on top of mass transit, clean rooms, cable works. What more could you possibly want at this price? I have paid more for pretty dingy places in Palo Alto and Mountain View. Yes, the rooms are dated and boring, the wallpaper peeling in places and dents and dings on the furniture. But they're really clean. If the fanciness of the room is important enough to you to pay more, by all means do so. But if you want a nice and really cheap place to stay while you enjoy travelling around SF, you could do MUCH worse.

I was worried after reading the mixed reviews here. I wanted to write to state how happy I am that I stayed here when I was traveling around SFO for job interviews. The room was comfortable, and well maintained. The pool was heated and clean. The hotel isn't hard to get to (BART to civic center, then catch the bus for 10 uphill blocks) - $15 to airport as well. Showers- Yes the showerheads are a bit low (I am 5'5), but does not limit ones ability to become clean. It could be annoying at times. Dining advice- Eat elsewhere

The hotel was very old & not well maintained. They charged us $10.00 a day for internet access , thus making the cost of the stay not a real good deal at all. The beds were worse than an old hospital beds, and the room heater didn't work.

We stayed at the Cathedral Hill Hotel. This hotel was described as ""recently refurbished,"" and after having stayed there I wonder what exactly was refurbished. The carpet was pretty old and dingy looking and honestly i felt uncomfortable walking in bare feet on it. Also, one of the reasons I chose this hotel was because of the movies and nintendo games advertised, but we were unable to access these features for some reason and the staff wasn't really interested in actually figuring out why. There was a nintendo controller but no option to even select games to play (although there were options for movies-we just couldn't access them). The good points were that the staff was distant and not overly-friendly, which is something i prefer, and the location was decent.
