  We booked a non smoking room but received a smoking room. We woke with red, swollen eyes and sniffles. No breakfast of any kind was offered. Too far from airport - cab fare was $36

• Great deal for a hotel on the beach

  We were in town for the day to see a Marlins/Pirates baseball game before boarding the next day for a cruise and needed a place for one night. Believe me, I researched Ft. Lauderdale hotels on the beach and this was the best value for my money. From the overall size and style of the building outside and the main lobby area, you can tell it is an older establishment...being an opulant hotel in its day. The room was a good size, the balcony was a bonus. Even though our room was on the side of the building, we still had an ocean view. The carpeting was a little tired looking, but the smaller-than-usual hotel bathroom looked like it was recently renovated, with new stone tile and lighting. For those complaining about the $8 a day valet, it's obvious they haven't traveled to larger cities, where valet parking is the only option and over $10 a day. The valet service was excellent, the breakfast out on the patio was nice and the location to the airport is good. It was a little hard finding the place during the day, with every hotel beginning with the word "Ocean", but the exterior illuminates into an ocean blue in the evening! We would definitely stay again when we're in the Ft. Lauderdale area.

  Stayed here in Feb 08. Everyone was very helpful and courteous. The parking valet, front desk, pool people, everyone. Never had to wait more than 2 minutes for my car. The room was quiet and comfortable and the shower was excellent. The pool is great and is right on the beach - about 30 feet from the water. Area is less congested than most oceanfront areas south of here and there are many stores and restaurants within walking distance. I was very happy with this place and would definitely stay here again. I wish I had a few more days to stay.

  I read the reviews and, after staying here, have concluded that the people with nasty reviews are either professional complainers or expect a 5 star hotel when they book a 3 star. The rooms were what I would expect from a 3 star. Not overly fancy, but clean and comfortable. Walls are a little thin so if you get stuck with spring breakers you may lose some sleep like we did. We did not take a car but the $8/day would have been reasonable. We used the safe so the $1/day was worth it. Even if for some reason we didn't use it, it's a dollar/day. Not worth complaining about. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not eat at the restaurant but I recomend the Sea Watch restaurant. Great seafood for small $$ and only a $10 cab ride with tip. Location was great. Right on the water. If you dont want to buck up the $5 to sit on the beach, the pool deck is right there with just as good ov a view and all the same sunshine. Tiki bar was ok. $5 for a beer. Overall we were happy with our stay. We booked a 3 star hotel and thats what we got.

  After reading the bad reviews I was wary about this hotel. However I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and the a/c worked great. Overall cleanliness of hotel was much better than I expected. They do hit you with some ridiculous charges though. $1.00 a day for the in room safe. $5.00 if you want a lounge chair on the beach. I was really annoyed with the safe charges. The valet parking attendents were very friendly even thtough you get charged $8.00 a day. You can self park, but you still get charged the $8.00 so you might as well valet it. We did not eat there so I cannot comment on the food. The pool was clean and warm. The only other complaint would be the roughness of all the towels. I do not think they have heard of fabric softener. They reminded me of the towels we used to get in gym class in high school.
