At the last minute, I was invited to attend an Expo at the McCormick Conference Center. Not realizing that it was Memorial weekend thought I could get a "deal" at one of my favorite hotels in the River North district. NOT! It took plenty of research to finally find this hotel at a reasonable rate (considering the holiday) and free parking in the River North district! I was hesitant but was pleasantly surprised...it was clean and right in the neighborhood I intended to stay in. Will recommend to others. I usually stay at the luxury hotels in the area, but will consider staying here as well.

The Howard Johnson is utterly unprepossessing. Old, shabby, and almost dillapidated exterior and hallways. The rooms, however, are clean and comfortable. Although it has none of the services the contemporary business traveller has come to expect, it is an excellent choice for the economy minded tourist who wants a good night's sleep withing walking distance of the Art Institute and other downtown attractions.

The second night we were there, in our second room, the toilet over flowed. The Desk was called at 7:45am and the problem was not resolved until 10:30am. We were unable to use the restroom until that time. We had to wait for maintenance to come. The toilet overflowed twice more as he was fixing it. He stated that housekeeping would be right over to clean up, but it took 3 calls to get help to arrive.
