I travel a lot for business. I am a SPG Gold member. I used points to stay here, but paid extra $ to upgrade to a "Club" room. The room was dungeon-like (dark, dirty). The room had recently been painted and in addition to reeking of strong paint fumes, reeked heavily of cigarette smoke (was supposed to be a non-smoking room). The robe had some other guest's make-up all over the sleeves and neck (ICK!), as did the mirror in the bathroom. The TV was non-working (which they finally fixed), and the windows hardware/latches fell off when I touched them (which only open a crack). On top of it all, the manager was super-rude and sneered at me condescendingly when I complained about the smoke and dirty robe (he kind of insinuated I was lying until I came down to the lobby with the disgusting robe showed him it in front of other guests). They sent me 3 green apples to make nice. Gee, thanks! The Club lounge is small and, no offense to well-behaved kids, was running wild with screaming kids on the 3 occasions I visited it (I was there on business, so expect the club lounge to be more of a sanctuary than a play school). Positives: The underground pool and spa area was wonderful! I had a great massage too. The location is good - but there are many other good hotels in the area. I've stayed in London 8 times and this place is THE worst.

Trying to get help from the front desk was horrible, they were very rude. We had no a/c. We were not the only customers affected by the air conditioning system not working, the entire floor was down the entire week that we were there. We booked 2 rooms on the same floor and had to continuously request to be moved, which took 2 days to happen. They were doing work on the exterior, which we were not told about. The kids, llate teens, were not allowed in the pool at all unless the parents were there with them at anytime. I would not recommend the hotel to anyone one of my friends.

The Hotel us under construction, was not notified of this. The room was suppose to be a King Deluxe, it was tiny and overlooked an alley and bird droppings. The air conditioning did not work in the room or on the entire floor. Complaints were coming from many guests and we were told the hotel was working on it.. because my room was so small it was impossible to get dressed to go out without be soaking wet from sweat. After 2 days of complaining they finally moved us to anotherr room with air conditioning. The front desk staff was extremely rude and unsympathetic to the complaints. We finally had an opportunity to speak to a night manager who was willing to try and better accomodate us. I work in the event planning industry and was completly shocked at their lack of concern for any of us returning to their hotel in the future. Heads up.. kids under 16 cannot use the pool even if accompanied by their parents after 8pm. We selected a hotel with a pool to keep the kids occupied after a long day of touring London.

We loved the location. There was a tube stop on the corner and many places (especially theatres) nearby. But it was too hot to sleep. They've gone to the beds without a top sheet; just a comforter. And the air conditioning system was unable to cool the room adequately. One of our rooms had a functioning window; so that room was tolerable at night. In the other room, the window was sealed, and it was hard to sleep. I requested suggestions from the concierge before our arrival (by e-mail) and received helpful information and reservations. But while we were there we were told by the concierge that he was busy, and probably wouldn't have time. There was always a line at his desk. There was a very restful bar where we could go at the end of the day and have a glass of wine and plot out our next day.

The service, staff and room accomodation were all excellent. The room had the euro shower with 5 shower heads and the bed was very comforatble. I had to search for the hair dryer which was attached to an inside drawer in the desk and this was a bit inconvenient. Beng an American, I was taken aback by some of the prices in the bar and lounge, but the dollar is weak so its probably not that unreasonable compared to some top of the line American hotels.
