We didn't know what to expect, the reviews seemed mixed, but this was a great hotel. It was clean, very short walking distance to pubs, theater, Covent Garden, Neal's Yard, a tube stop... we loved it. The rooms were spotless, breakfast was an overload buffet and the location was perfect for the West End locations we wanted to visit in London.

This was the second time I have stayed at the Strand Palace and the experience just gets better. It is centrally located to nearly all sights, a short hop from the Underground (Charing Cross), and such a great savings compared to other hotels in the area. The restaurants serve virtually any type of food you are looking for and the concierge service is helpful and friendly. The rooms are not spacious (the bathrooms are), but if you are doing more than just sleeping and changing clothes, then you are missing out on London! The beds are comfy and the room was spotless clean. I have stayed in may hotels throughout the Old City and the Strand Palace is far and away my favorite.

  • Good value, great location.

I have stayed at the Strand Palace during trips to London for years. It is a simple, straightforward hotel -- nothing fancy, but certainly more than adequate. What makes it my hotel of choice, however, is the location ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE PERFORMING ARTS -- 2 blocks from Covent Garden, an easy walk from most theatres, directly in the heart of the city's activities. I always refer to it as the tourist hotel across the road from the Savoy -- just as convenient, but not as posh and certainly much less expensive. If the arts are an interest, this is a great hotel for you. As I am a compulsive theatre goer this is my hotel of choice.

Hotel is excellently situated for Covent Garden, Charing Cross, and Trafalgar Square areas. Rooms are a little small but clean and comfortable. Fans take the place of A/C so may be a little warm in midsummer. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Bus service available right outside the door for the St Paul's and Tower Bridge areas. In-room safes for security.

We checked in late in the day, and received what had to be one of their least desirable rooms. It was on the first floor in a wing undergoing light renovation. It was a triangular corner room, so there was street noise from two sides. The twin sized bed is smaller than what was shown in the hotel's online brochure. We asked if any other rooms were available, and even offered to pay extra for an upgrade. The desk clerk said yes, but manager said the hotel was completely booked, and no other rooms were available. Judging by the emptiness of the lobby and hallways, and lack of "do not disturb" signs hung out, I was not convinced. Since it was a prepaid package vacation, we did not have the option to just leave and find another hotel. On the plus side, the hotel's location is great. The included English breakfast is buffet style and the food is good. Staff other than the manager were courteous and efficient. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The room was clean, but small and it was quiet with the window shut. Since there was no A/C, evenings were warm. Next trip, I'll look elsewhere. Being stuck in this room was the only blot on an otherwise lovely trip.
