This hotel was clean, beds comfortable, and adequate for our needs. The beach is a short walk away, with many restaurants and shops nearby. No view, but who stays in their hotel very long anyway in Hawaii? Free shuttle service is a bonus!

The value of this room with a kitchenette was really great based upon other available rooms without kitchenettes in the area over the New Years' week. The Ohana East Hotel is located just one block from the beach but between the main Waikiki street (Kalakaua Ave.) and Kuhio Ave. (where all the buses run). This central location allows you the ability to go in several directions without having to venture far. You can go to the beach, malls, scenic and tourist attractions by walking across the street to the many bus lines. With a great transit system you can have a 4 day unlimited pass for $25 that can take you all around the island (North Shore, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, the Airport, etc). You also have the Ohana Hotel's free connection to the Pink Line Trolleys to Ala Moana Mall and other local locations by just using your hotel room keycard. If you get a room with a kitchenette ask for the Kuhio Ave. side of the hotel. The ones at the other end can be converted into a suite but you sacrifice some room and the showers are a little cramped. The mattresses are a little hard for my taste, though. The hotel staff are extremely accommodating and they have hospitality rooms available if you have a "red-eye" departure flight so that you can check your bags with the friendly Bellmen (Ray and Co.), enjoy the day, shower and change for your late trip home. They also give you free coffee and muffins every day at the breakfast/sandwich shop that have available computers ($). There's a sports bar, a great restaurant (Chuck's Cellar) and another good restaurant (Keoni's) right at the entrance to the hotel. Chili's, Denny's, KFC, Subway, BK and many others are all 1 or 2 minutes away. Try it, you'll like it!!

I was not sure what to expect because the price was reasonable. The staff was very friendly, the room was fine and the location was good. We had to have a repair done in our room and they took care of it immediately. The pull out bed was not very comfortable for adults, but it works fine for young kids. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place. However for a family vacation where you are spending most of your time away from the room this is a great option.
