This is a fine older hotel!! It has an excellent location. Close to the Opera house. Also easy to the public transportation which is very inexpensive for senior citizens like me. The room was comfortable and clean. The people, for the most pat, were helpfull and friendly. It is a good representation of a classic hotel who has taken care to keep up with the expectations of today.

We visited the Whitcomb hotel in October 2010 for the first time as well as California for the first time! We loved our stay. Our rooms had 2 double beds with comfortable mattresses. My bed was not made though when we first arrived to our rooms but was done when we told the front desk and from there on. They need to upgrade their televisions because we had a remote control. Other than that the hotel was splendid. The guests should be prepared for the amount of beggars and homelessness problem in the city. Sams Diner is across the street with excellent but economical food! The restaurant inside the hotel is a bit pricey. I ate there once doing my 5 day stay as a treat . The bed is soooo comfortable that I am going to make it a point to revisit this hotel again in the future. We were made to feel welcome there which we appreciate so much. LOVE IT LOVE IT! Well BE BACK!!!!!!!! Thanks for a wonderful stay!!!

02/12/2011The only thing i was not fond of was the $95.00 i paid on for parking. even though i received a deal for 3 nights stay, it really averaged ...
The only thing I was not fond of was the $95.00 I paid on for parking. Even though I received a deal for 3 nights stay, it really averaged out with the extra costs. Overall though I had a good stay and and the location was great. The room was clean and kept that way throughout my stay. I would stay there again but without my car. The internet is free but very slow. Garbage truck pick up noisy.

Hotel Whitcomb is the kind of hotel I like. Not a flashy cookie-cutter modern box, but a type of classic European style hotel. My room wasn't very big but nicely decorated and clean with great linens and a comfortable bed. The staff were generally friendly and very professional. The location is great - and right downtown in this wonderful city. Local friends were a bit wary of the area but I felt very comfortable and safe. A nice restaurant and a Starbucks in the lobby... Would definitely stay again.

02/09/2011The hotel was historical, pretty and in a great location. it's within walking distance to union square and the orpheum theatre. the beds are very comfortable. great experience.
