When checking in, and to my surprise, I got upgraded to a suite on the 12th floor. Huge room, with views over the city. Room service every morning was prompt-when I made my order within 10 mins. my morning coffee arrived. The hotel staff were very friendly and willing to help. The restaurant and bar was inviting, good menu and entertainment. The rooms were very clean and the beds extremely comfortable. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would stay here again.

Was expecting much much more for the price that I paid, but was overall disappointed. Could tell that back in the day this hotel was most likely the place to be, but it's not in that great of an area, the beds were uncomfortable, and the rooms were not that impressive. I left feeling like I wasted my money. That being said, the staff still made it feel like a luxury hotel, although nothing extra was provided, and it felt like I was staying somewhere historic.

I would not stay here again. Even though clean with a nice staff, this hotel was not worth the $* per night we paid. There was no coffee pot or mini-bar in the room. A pot of room service coffee cost $* for a "large" pot . Added to the $* base price was a $* delivery fee and gratuity. So for $* my husband and I each got two tiny cups of coffee that weren't even hot. Next time I'll look for a hotel that isn't so full of itself.

Gorgeous old building of its period. Received well at front door and front desk. Nice, clean, spacious room, quiet, lovely view. Bathroom really a throwback to the old days, now seems stylistically quite anachronistic and in need of an update, although it is functionally all one could want, clean, and in perfect working condition. Location atop Nob Hill is perfect for walking, grabbing the cable car, Union Square, restaurants, theatres (we hit Scala's Bistro and SF Playhouse, both excellent). Fortunately we found a room on the travel website for just over half the price on every other website inclluding the hotel's own!
