This hotel is located at the very top of the Hill. If you cannot walk up steep hills, do not stay there. The staff is dreadful and the conciergie have no idea what they are doing. They didn't even know the times of the cable car system and let's not even talk about the restuarants they recommend .For the price, there are much better hotels around the square. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel exceeded everything we might have hoped for in a hotel, both in terms of beauty, service, cleanliness, and friendliness. We were allocated a room on the 2nd floor, and my husband went to talk to Mike, the manager, to tell him it was much smaller than we had hoped for. Since the hotel was booked full that evening, we had to stay there that night, but Mike said he would make it up to us the following night for the rest of the trip. We were appointed the Nob Hill Room on the 14th floor from then on out. Magnificent view-you could look out to see the bay in the distance, with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island in the distance. Housekeeping, the bellman, the front desk staff, and the server at Top of the Mark, were all wonderful. The Hopkins carries off professionalism in the highest manner, while still being very warm and friendly. We will most definitely stay there again!

My wife and I spent a three day weekend in San Francisco staying at the Mark Hopkins. The atmosphere of the hotel was from another time and was so elegant as to be almost surreal. The service was impeccable. A highlight of the hotel stay was cocktails at the Top of the Mark looking out into the night through the fog. For us the best part of the experience was the location of the hotel. We walked to everything and probably covered six miles over the weekend. We found interesting things we didn't know existed in every direction. The hotel was close enough for us to walk to shopping, theater, restaurants, tourist attractions and several neighborhoods with interesting architecture. This is one great hotel, but all the surprises just outside are even better.

My mom, sister, and I had a recent stay at the Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill near Union Square. A shopping trip to San Francisco has become a recent holiday tradition for us. We arrived fairly early and were prepared to park, stash our luggage, and head to the shops. We were greeted promptly by hotel staff, and to our surprise, our room was ready and we were allowed to check in immediately. Our room, while small (it is an old hotel, after all), was very nice and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The only drawback was the cable cars going by all day, but it is San Francisco after all! They were a little noisy, but it added atmosphere. Later that night, we headed up to the Top of the Mark for the famous martinis. They really do have 100 of them! Drinks were pricey, but the view is spectacular and the bar service great. Overall, a very nice hotel in a great area of the city and I would stay here again.

We loved the hotel ambiance as well as the service. You can hear noises ever so often, but nothing really annoying. It is old and has tons of character and beautiful furnishings with granite and marble bathrooms. Cable cars are very close to the hotel and are $* per day for a pass, taxi's are great to get around and not that expensive either (although you may need to close your eyes from time to time). The hotel Town Car took us to our event and it was free with only a tip to the driver. Nob Hill Cafe, and Sears Fine Food were close by and both good prices and good food. Union Plaza shopping was great. We met friends who had traveled there from Mexico. Their room included breakfast at the Top of the Mark. We joined them one day. It was good food, excellent service and a stunning view. If you think it is expensive, think of it as $* for the view and the rest for the meal. All you can eat buffet, included cheeses, meats, salmon, fruit, pastries, etc.-- and the traditional breakfast. If you get the chance to go during the Holidays you should. Christmas lights everywhere-spectacular! Can't wait to go again.
