The hotel is beautifully located on Union Square, is extremely clean and the staff is friendly. I was dissapointed, however, that Wi-Fi is not complementary. Note: This location is perfect for business or an adult get-away, but not that great for children or teenagers.

The hotel itself was a comfortable place to stay. Because a convention was in town, we were bumped up to the room that I suppose few wanted to pay for, way up on the 29th floor. Great extra! Great view of Union Square and a good part of the bay, once I got used to the height (I've a slight fear of such#. Felt very secure, and, being downtown, was close to just about everything we needed. Now the down side: they nickel-and-dime you for the amenities you'd ordinarily expect from two-star franchise off the beltway. Internet? Be prepared to fork out in a few days what you'd pay an entire month for at home. Thank goodness for smart phones #which, I know, we overpay for already# or our inboxes would have really piled up. It's all a matter of priority, I suppose, depending on one's circumstances. BEWARE THE ROOM'S SNACK/WET BAR. Ever paid seven bucks for a Snickers bar? You could without knowing it, if you don't read the instructions first. These instructions say that anything taken out of the refrigerator will appear on your bill within 10 seconds. No lie. They're really out to get you! The second day we didn't get any shampoo. When we called room service, the maid spoke no English and gave us only body wash. Pantomiming, we got extra conditioner, but no shampoo. The next day, room service never even showed up, despite our being out all day and coming back around 4 in the afternoon. Again, we had to call to have the body wash replaced #still no shampoo, though#. Now my personal diatribe against upscale hotels in general, and their being bedfellows with business travelers. Not just Westin, but Klimpton and any other luxury hotel brand. Knowing that these hotels are priced in every aspect to cater to what a traveling businessman's parent company will shell out in the form of an expense account, they really do a disservice to the ordinary tourist/traveler who wants to explore and be treated right at a reasonable price. Pricey internet? Put it on the expense account. Arm-and-a-leg snack bar? Who cares with Big Wig paying for it, whose night out can cost more than a week at such a place. They must scratch each other's backs somehow...it's a feeling similar to how I feel about the relationship between medical practitioners and insurance companies. In conclusion, if you don't mind splurging #we stayed there as a birthday gift, so the room upgrade was a nice surprise) because you are a celebrity, or a businessman with a deep-pocketed employer, go for it, since I doubt you will be disappointed...unless you are bothered by all those pesky tourists swarming the lobby.
