The Westin St. Francis is a beautiful hotel. The accommodations were outstanding. I was unaware at the time of the booking that the Westin St. Francis is the oldest hotel in San Francisco and the only building to survive the earthquake and fires of 1906. 1st time to San Francisco and the city was much more than I expected. The history and sites were unbelievable. Plan on returning in the late fall for a 2nd trip.

Stayed 3 nights, beds were comfy and location excellent, HOWEVER, there were many disappointments. We had a room in the old building which was miniscule and badly in need of an update. Upon arrival the room had not been thoroughly cleaned; the ice bucket was full of murky water and the lotion and shampoo containers had been partially used by previous guests. The service was hit and miss; the valet who greeted us as we pulled in was rude and spoke sharply to us when we began unloading our own luggage ;we thought we were helping;. The line for check-in was easily 10 people long with only 2 customer service attendants. A third attendant walked past the line and when the gentleman in front of us informed her that he was already checked in and simply needed another room key, she snapped at him and told him to wait, then walked off without pitching in to assist her fellow clerks. On the other hand, the gentlemen who checked us out was extremely personable and friendly ;maybe they are happier to see their guests leave than arrive?; Be prepared to pay extra for everything! The health club is well equipped but cost $12 per day, per person to use. In addition, there is a hefty charge for internet use in the room and even in the complimentary business center. The parking fee is steep but typical for San Francisco. If you want to pay over $10 for a bowl of oatmeal, eat breakfast at the St. Francis, if not, there are several excellent and economical; diners within walking distance. Overall our stay was disappointing and we will definitely choose a different hotel next time around.

Avoid this hotel like the plague. They charge obsene amounts for every little thing. The parking is * a night, the internet was * for three days, the maid stole money off the nightstand, and it's noisy as can be. Very disapointed with this hotel, and I won't be returning.

When my wife and I recently stayed overnight, we had to call security twice in the middle of the night because the room next to ours was very noisy. Unfortunately, whatever the security people did (if anything) was totally ineffective, as the noise continued. Needless to say, we did not sleep well.
