Within a couple hours of staying here I was ready to give it a 2 star review. Luckily I was able to take care of the main issue that bothered me myself and after that all was well. In these rooms is a thermostat triggered by motion sensor. If the motion sensor is not tripped, the ac or heat doesn't turn on until it is. Of course this past weekend it was near 100 degree heat and when we walked in the room it was 80 degrees. After being out in the heat I was looking forward to a cool room and this is not what we got. Of course after thinking about it I was worried that the AC would cut off in the middle of the night while we were sleeping. In no way do I want to wake up in a puddle of sweat at 2am because the AC doesn't work without me waving at the thermostat. I called the front desk and they did confirm it will go off if nothing is setting it off. I told her that doesn't work for me and I need it fixed somehow. She sent their "engineer" to my room to fix the problem. He pulled the thermostat, pulled a wire out and said all was taken care of. I thanked him and he went on his way. We went out for dinner and when we got back we were once again greeted to a hot room, his trick didn't work. Now I am getting mad thinking about trying to sleep in the heat and the need for me to wave at the thermostat everytime I wake up gasping for cool air. Thankfully they do have wireless internet so I got on my lap top and found a way to bypass it. I feel the need to pass this on so here goes it. Hit the "power" and "blue down arrow" (cool) buttons at the same time. "bP" should flash in the window, it stands for bypass. Now the AC should just run. If the system cut off when you did this turn it on and do it again. I never had to try more than twice. My understanding is it only bypasses it for 24 hours so you will need to do this once a day. The trick worked and I was comfy during my stay. I do find it disappointing the people at the front desk don't tell you this. I asked the girl if I could do something and she said no. I find it unacceptable that they'd rather just have their patrons deal with cold or hot rooms. Anyways with the above trick you can be happy and not worry about this. You might also check the AC filter. Mine was clogged and the coils started frosting up and the AC stopped blowing cold air. I pulled the filter and the AC defrosted within minutes and it was once again blowing cold air. I left it out until the day I left. On to the other things. Overall I was very happy with everything else. The only other thing that wasn't great for me aside from the above AC issues was the phone. It stopped working for some reason the first night I was there. I didn't feel like dealing with it and I let them know about it when I checked out. Other than that the room was good. It was comfortable and clean. I slept well and would stay here again. I can also say the location was great. You are very close to the national mall and all it has to offer. We walked from the hotel the the Smithsonian museums, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and so much more. Good luck finding another hotel with this kind of location in this price range. This has nothing to do with the hotel but moreso with food in the area. You need to eat at the "Old Ebbit Grill". Filomena Ristorante was also very good if you are looking for some good italian. Note these aren't cheap but not to expensive either. I payed around $70 for myself and my wife at both places. This included desert.

The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. We arrived at 9:00 am from the airport and could not check in. They stored our luggage for us until our room was ready. The only problem was there were not restaurants near except for fast food other than the hotel. The hotel is located near the capital and museums. We walked over to them. Also convenient to location to catch a touring bus or city bus. Next time I go to Washington, I plan to stay at the same hotel.

Negatives- don't go for the roof top pool, breakfast in the restaurant was not good and it was over priced. The express next to the restaurant was good to get a Starbucks coffee, better than waiting at Starbucks in the lobby. We got a roll away bed and with the king bed in the room there was still room to move around.
