I stayed at the Bijou for 7 nights. Everything was clean and well-organized. The desk staff were extremely helpful with directions, suggestions and arrangements. The free coffee/tea and free movies in the evening were sweet bonuses. I didn't have a problem with noise even though my window faced the street (6th floor), but they provide earplugs in case you're a light sleeper. I'd go there again! The neighborhood is seedy on one side, but fine if you walk the other way. No problems, and I'm a youngish woman, mostly alone. BART and MUNI are one block away.

I found this hotel to be well-placed near the BART station and only a couple of blocks away from the conference center. Room was very clean, and staff were friendly. Take note though, it is right on the edge of a sketchy area. Turn one way, you're fine, turn the other, and you meet some very interesting people. Also, quite a bit of noise at night from the street, though this didn't seem to bother my sleeping. Overall a good experience, but if noise bothers you, I'd pay a bit more for a hotel with rooms higher up or further from the tenderloin district.

Of the 3 hotels during my trip (2 SF, 1 Sonoma), this is my favorite. Hotel corner feels quite safe; although the area away from Powell St. may feel slightly sketchy sometimes, all other directions feel safe--bustling downtown feel. Room is clean, great condition, good architectural character. Nightly movies a special touch. Hotel, lobby, & room all a comfortable size. Quiet (4th floor room). Breakfast (included) is minimum-standard: white bread, manufactured muffins, packaged cream. Bkfst room is overlit w/ fluorescents--hospital cafeteria feel. A minor drawback.

What a nice idea for a hotel! I love movies, so the movie-themed Hotel Bijou was perfect for me. The location is fantastic, close to the Cablecar Turnaround, subway station, and bus stops.Yes it's noisy, but my visit was in December, so I closed the windows at night. Since the rooms have no AC, it can be harder to get sleep in the summer. This is a great hotel, upbeat and nicely decorated (not EVERYTHING is white!) The movie shows in the evening were a great plus, and breakfast was enough to get me well fueled to roam SF.
