Only complaint is that they were painting the outside at the time of stay and had the ladders and drop clothes piled up next to the pool in the courtyard.

Quaint hotel right off bourbon st but amazingly quiet -- balcony, even overlooking the courtyard, was a plus to have. staff was attentive, helpful and pleasant.

The hotel was under renovation while we stayed there, but you would have had a hard time noticing it if the staff didn't tell you. Everything was still very clean and very quiet and relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helpful in making recommendations for food, entertainment, transportation, etc. You can not beat the location right in the heart of the French Quarter. I will definitely stay here again on future visits to New Orleans.

The staff was incredibly helpful and couteous, from the Front Desk clerk to the Bellmen to the Valets to the Room Service Maid. Room was clean and had all the amenities one would expect of a small hotel. Enjoyed my courtyard balcony and the attatched restaurant and bar downstairs. Ate breakfastt twice while staying and also had a light snack on Saturday evening while watching U.Va. upset Florida State! Had the whole restaurant staff rooting for U.Va. by the end of the ball game. The $28 parking fee is not unusual for inner city hotels and certainly a bit more affordable than the Royal Sonesta ($36) ot the Jefferson in Richmond ($35). Only down side were the bed pillows-- about as uncomfortable as I've ever experienced and the hotel had no option or solution. Also, there was no gift shop but the convenience store next door (Opera House Annex) had a nice selection of beers and cigars and was only across the parking entrance to the hotel. I'm ditching the Royal Sonesta and making the Saint Marie my official headquarters when I come to New Orleans.

I was in New Orleans with several friends to celebrate a birthday and spent 5 nights at the hotel. We all had a good time and the helpfulness of the staff. The only reason I rated it lower for value, was because I know my room woiuld be much, much higher in the cooler months and I wouldn't be able to afford it then. Also, I wasn't aware of different rate for balcony rooms - I wish I had gotten one. As far cleanliness, I rated it down a little because the beautiful courtyard area could have been kept a little cleaner through the day and overnight for the next morning. I would definitely stay atthe Hotel St. Marie again.
