This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere, here's why. It sits in an area of SF that is not yet completely gentrified, meaning there are still some perfect funky little restaurants, coffee bars (non-Starbucks), and edgy street people. But if you want a break from that the restaurant in the hotel -- Arabesque? -- is superb. Also, a nice bar on the immediate corner (can't remember the name). But most of all the lobby is really cool with a constant flow of interesting people. An afternoon wine happy hour is a great touch. The floors and rooms feel like you're in an older hotel -- it was built in early 20th century -- but everything is clean and modern where it needs to be. Everyone I've dealt with behind the desk have been great -- genuine people, not Barbie and Ken. Again, one of my favorite hotels anywhere.

The room was nice but it was a cold night and they use a radiator to heat. It was fine when I went to bed but no heat by the time the morning came. They did give me an individual heater for the second night. Good location in the heart of Downtown so just a quick bus ride or walk (if you can handle the hills) to almost anywhere you wanted to go.

My husband and I stayed there over the course of three nights. It was a long drive from the airport, but other local attractions were easily within 10-15 mins. by taxi or bus. The was quaint. There was a huge closet in our room that we felt could of been minimized to make more room for lounging. The bathroom was clean, the tub had a funny slant to it, making it somewhat tricky to stay standing. The bed was comfortable, not great, but not terrible. The view was okay from our room. The lobby was great and service was also very accomadating. We would certainly consider staying there again.
