My husband and I stayed here only one night (our anniversary) and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is situated between Union Square and Polk Gulch, both of which have plenty of shopping and restaurants. There is a cool bar next door, too. The staff was kind and helpful and the room was really cute. The bed and pillows were both comfortable. Our only complaint about the room was the shortage of horizontal space to put stuff in both the room and the bathroom. We had breakfast in the restaurant downstairs in the morning and enjoyed a no-frills, delicious meal. All in all, it was a good experience and we would stay there again.

  • A simple, good hotel, though walls are made of paper

I spent 4 nights in the hotel, having booked it through the internet, relying mostly on the comments at this site. I guess, the comments were fairly accurate. It's conveniently located - a walking distance to Union Sq and Chinatown and several options to connect with the public transportation within walking distance too (you may have to change bus/metro to get to most places, though). The staff were fairly nice and welcoming. The rooms were clean and so was the bathroom, which is most important. The weather was kind of crazy for July and the heaters were not on, even though it was cold, so you should take that extra blanket to sleep. Finally, the walls where superthin, which is a problem when the cleaning ladies start at 8 AM sharp! Also, if you're thinking of having extra-curricular activities in the hotel room with your partner - think twice. ;)

  • Charming hotel with a fantastic and colorful staff.

This hotel has old world charm with modern sensibilities. The staff was amazingly helpful and quite funny too. I didn't get to eat at the restaurant but did buy a bottle of wine from them and the woman gave us wine glasses to take back to our room. Funky old elevators with a lot of personality, inviting decor in the lobby, and just a quirky atmosphere overall. Bathrooms could be updated, and the beds could be more comfortable. Otherwise, it was great!

  • For the price, this hotel is a terrific deal.

While we found the room and bathroom to be rather small, the location and friendliness of the the staff more than made up for it. Each evening at 5:30pm, Tio (one of the staff members) plays songs he has written on the electric piano, in the lobby. While the music is playing, guests relax in the lobby enjoying a free wine-tasting . The location of the hotel is convenient to downtown, and a short cab ride away from fisherman's wharf. I would recommend this hotel to tourists who will spend the majority of their time out on the town. If you are going to spend the majority of your waking hours in the room, you might find it a bit small.
