Very disappointing experience

I have stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel in Midtown several times and have had satisfactory experienes. I again chose to make a reservation there for 2 nights in May. The first night, the fire alarms went off many times, about 40 minutes intervals throughout the night. There were intermittent loudspeaker announcements in the halls that there was no fire. Upon returning to the hotel about midnight, there was a note under my door that at 8am the next morning, crews would be removing the carpet, molding, and wall coverings on the entire floor. This was indeed true--at the stroke of 8am it was demolition area. The hallway was filled for hours with powery dust, the workmen all wore masks, and patrons had to hoist their bags over large rolls of carpet and debris to get to the elevators. No explanation or apology was issued for the night of repeated smoke alarms. Prior to the note under the door, no mention was made of major construction on the entire floor. Obviously, this construction had to have been scheduled far in advance and was known to management when they assigned these rooms. The emergency alarms deserved explanation and apology. These rooms should never have been rented. The experience was totally unsatisfactory and I consider a refund due.

We stayed at this DoubleTree for 2 nights during kids spring break. Great location at Lex and 51st. Subway station below made it very convenient to get around. We got the parking pkg and were able to keep the car parked safely in a garage for our stay. **Many thanks to the previous reviewers that mentioned the Fire/Police station next to hotel -( located on 51st). I asked for a room on the other side of hotel specifically away from the fire/police station and thats what they gave us and I think that was a huge plus noise wise. Really for the price including parking this is a NYC bargain with clean, comfortable rooms-rooms arent large but have everything you need and really for a sightseeing trip you are really just sleeping in the room not living it.

The Doubletree Metropolitan is a great choice for NYC travelers. The location is excellent with parking adjacent to the hotel. The room was very comfortable (my husband particularly like the large HDTV) and you can't beat the price. We will definitely stay there again.

When you are planning a travel to New York for the first time you want that everything be perfect starting with the flight them the hotel etc. My wife and I went to New York the last November 2009 for Thanksgiving. Our experience was amazing. The staff in this hotel is very professional. The welcome was with cookies and fresh milk. #40You can enjoy this everyday at the front desk is totally free#41. Everybody there offer a great smile everyday. The room was very clean and comfortable the bathroom was perfect. I remember that week was really cold and the heater was working PERFECT. This hotel is located in very good area very close to the subways #40just at the corner#41 you can walk to any place because is close to Central Park to Time Square close to a lot of amazing places. The food from the restaurant is great you can also enjoy every morning the breakfast from the Metro Cafe just at the next door. My wife was pregnant at that time and one day she told me that she was hungry #40that was at 2:00 am#41 I just walked one block from the hotel and I got hotdogs and hot chocolate for my wife. We are planning to return to New York with or baby girl for this spring and we will be at the same hotel.

I used to stay here around 2000-2003. For some reason ( mostly due to convenience on conferences), after that I always ended up staying on different hotels around the midtown area ( Marriott marquis, Sheraton etc ) but finally in 2010 I went back to it. Very simple but objective and successful delivering it's promise, a modern hotel in the heart of midtown that will always greet you with a cookie ( literally ) so you feel at home
