Either there is a tremendous mold/mildew problem in this place or someone game their dogs freedom to roam the hallways and use them as their person toilet. I don't know if it was just me or merely psychosomatic from the smell, but the surfaces just felt dirty. Maybe it was just the general age of the place.

This hotel is on the edge of Georgetown with a nice bar and front terrace on Pennsylvania Avenue. What it lacks is a good restaurant. Breakfast was $40.00 for two - hot or cold buffet - Very expensive. The room was average but the staff was excellent.

We stayed for a week and found the location to be great. The hotel was nice but not really a four star hotel. While everything was clean the suite we had needed some work. The carpet had spots and the ceiling had water damage. They have one restaraunt and one lounge. We tried several times to have breakfast at the restaraunt but they were always closed for a private function. For the nine days we were there, we ate there once. The lounge was very nice but very short staffed so we did a lot of waiting. The staff was very pleasant and for the most part very helpful.

We (3 of us) recently stayed at The Melrose for 3 nights. It was an acceptable stay for the most part. The Melrose staff were polite and helpful and quick to assist us with directions, questions, whatever. The rooms were rather small and the bathroom was like a closet. Also our hallway up on the 3rd floor smelled like mildew. The 32"" LCD TV would have been nice had it worked properly, unfortunately to operate the LodgeNet system required an engineering degree. Also, I found the added expense of $32 for daily parking exorbitant. By the way, the ""available internet""? Not free. The hotel is located in a decent area of Georgetown and within a 10 minute walking distance of restaurants, shops and a CVS pharmacy.
