Overall, this is a nice hotel. Very convenient to the subway and directly across from the Natural History Museum. Perfect for exploring the Upper West Side. Easy subway ride to midtown, downtown, Brooklyn, etc. One block walk to Central Park. Location was fabulous. We don't like staying in Times Square or Midtown as we find them too touristy. Staying in the UWS makes us feel more like a local. This isn't really a complaint - but if you're claustrophobic, you may want to look elsewhere. There are hotel rooms in NYC that are larger. The hotel in itself is very classy and quaint. The room was short of clean. There were fingerprints on the light switches, a thick layer of dust on the vents, stuff like that. The bed and bathroom were clean for the most part. The bed was somewhat lumpy and hard. On our second night, the air conditioner started making so much noise that we couldn't sleep. We told the front desk and were told they would send someone up. We don't know if anyone ever came up, because we were out for the day. If they did, they didn't fix it because it was just as loud that night. Either way, they didn't let us know. We ended up having to shut off the unit and open the windows where the noise on the streets kept us up. They stored our bags for us after checkout until our departure. Overall, the staff was friendly.

Stayed with my wife and 6 and 8 y/o children. Nicely restored hotel retaining its original charm. They took great attention to detail in the restorations. Excellent, quiet location close to Central Park, Museum of Natural History, The MET, 5th ave shopping, quaint restaurants, awesome view from room, etc. We were upgraded to a suite without even asking. Also got very good service from Bellman and front desk staff. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely stay again and recommend to others.

We love staying here. If you're lucky enough to get a room on the upper floors, south side, you can look down on the planetarium. There are great restaurants in the neighborhood, easy walking distance, and it's a block from the museum subway stop.

The room was nice (the hotel "info book" could use a little work, though!). When I go back, I will certainly stay there again. *MY* room had a poor view (the hotel is shaped like an H -- and I looked across the alley at the other side of the hotel. Looking across to the park would have been much nicer. I really wasn't impressed with the quality of the breakfast buffet (not for the price!) -- but I didn't go to NYC to eat.

The room was well-decorated, clean and welcoming. Not large, but average for an NYC hotel. The location is excellent, near restaurants, museums, Central Park, subway and bus stops. Connections to mid-town are very good. Although I didn't try it, the restaurant was recommended by nearby residents. I plan to stay again.
