My husband and I booked this hotel with our flight through online travel website. I read the reviews prior to going and they were mostly good. We arrived and love it. The staff was great and helpful, the rooms were clean and cozy and the hotel is only a block over from the beach...right in the middle of the action. We would definitely stay at this hotel again, actually we had such a good time we decided to go back every summer and stay at the Blue Moon.

We booked our hotel online for our honeymoon. I called the hotel twice and never once was informed of the daily $* amenity charge. This is NOT optional whether you use the service or not. I think this should be included in the price of the room instead of informing you at check-in. The room was okay. When I called the second time I told them it was our honeymoon and I was assured "You will not be disappointed. We will make arrangements for you." They did upgrade me free of charge to a superior king room instead of a superior queen. However the room was on the corner of two alley ways and was EXTREMELY NOISY around 2 am - 4 am. The room was kept clean. The service was okay. The man at the counter when we checked in was nice, addressed us by name, and said "Congratulations on your new marriage." The lady that was at the desk the next few days was rude and didn't seem to care or have time to answer questions. We were unfamiliar with the city and asked for the best way to get to our destination (cab, bus, etc.). The lady just looked at us and said "You need to call where ever you're going and ask them." She then walked to back of desk and used cell phone. The conceige, XXX, was wonderful. He came over, apologized, and offered to help. He found pamphlets, called the location asking about operating times, location, best way to get there, and instructed us very detailed on how to use the public transportation. He was at the door on our return to ask us how it went and if we found it okay. Another plus - one block from the beach and shopping.

This hotel is only a block from Ocean Drive where you will find great, varied restaurants and bars. We easily walked to wherever we wanted to go. The staff was great and very friendly. The rooms were small and our room only had a queen bed but we were able to spend time on the beach one day and had some great meals nearby. This was our first trip to South Beach and we really enjoyed ourselves. This was a pre cruise hotel stay and I wanted to stay at one of the nice, restored Art Deco style hotels in the area. I was very pleased overall with the Blue Moon. The reservation person several months earlier was pleasant and helpful and the front desk staff and bellman were down to earth and friendly. We were always greeted when walking through the lobby - when leaving the hotel and when coming back. That is part of the charm of a small hotel. We did not use the elevator. It worked but let's just say we were more comfortable using the stairs each time. We had no trouble getting a shuttle to take us to Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday morning to get on our Princess cruise ship. We did not use the small pool at the Blue Moon but it was available and the area looked clean. We will definitely consider staying at the Blue Moon on our next trip to Miami. We really enjoyed staying in South Beach even though we were not cruising out of the Miami cruise terminal but going to Fort Lauderdale which is about 25 miles away. We have recommended this hotel to some of our friends. Enjoy!

I don't know who rated the "Blue Moon" hotel 3-1/2 stars, its more like 1-1/2 stars. I'm aware the hotel was built in the 1930's, but the Blue Moon, could still maintain there theme, and modernize the hotel from the rooms to the elevator. I called the hotel, and was told the hotel was recently renovated, and it has many different themes throughout the hotel, and most importantly, "I would have a wonderful stay there"
excellent sales pitch, I guess I stayed in the wrong hotel to get what he said??? Outside of the location, the hotel was AWEFUL!!!. The rooms advertised on the travel websites, are just a sales pitch, that is not the room you will get if you book through a travel website. I was told, I got the older room because I didn't book directly throught the hotel.
I spoke with an agent after booking my room, and inquired about the rooms, and was told, that the handicap rooms are much larger than the regular rooms, and all of the rooms were recently renovated in January, I specifically told him, I did not want a handicap room, and he assured me that I would get a regular room. Once I checked in, that wasn't the case, the front desk attendant told me that was the only room available was a handicap room, room 108. This room was the PITTS!!! The carpet was dirty, the room was the size of a closet, the bathroom was in desparate need of renovation, there was mold and mildew all over, there is no dresser for your personal, it had a stail smell about the room, and the ceiling fan had a severe wobble, as if it was about to fall from the ceiling, this room needs to be renovated. Now, the grand finale around 2:00 am, there is this extremely loud, annoying water drip in the walls between the T.V. case and the closet, which kept us awake all night.
I complained to the midnight desk clerk, and he told me, the hotel was completely sold out, and I would have to get up bu 7:30 am to talk with the morning manager, I did, and was eventually given a nicer room.
If you choose this hotel, don't be surprised if you don't get what you asked for, but the location is GREAT!!!, and be prepared to carry you own luggage. There's only one elevator, the sixe of a matchbox.

Two things that were bad about this hotel: the front desk staff all had terrible attitudes -- at one point someone actually asked me, ""What's your problem?"" while I was waiting for them to retrieve my bags. Also, my hotel room had a lot of ants in the bathroom.
