Don't let any of the negative reviews dissuade you. Chances are they're written by people who own Fiats that get angry when the valet parks their car for them, after being told that they just had to go into the hotel for a minute and that they'd be right back. His worst problem in life is that he has to stand in beautiful Coconut Grove for a couple more minutes while a man drives his car to him. Don't listen to that guy. You have your priorities. Chances are you're in the Miami area to see/taste/experience the Miami area. Chances are you're there with a significant other looking for a little song, a little dance, and perhaps a little alone time. Well that's what you get. Bathroom with a dimmer light? Yup. Private balcony? Yup. Who cares if it doesn't have a view? That's what the rooftop pool/bar is for. Plus, do you really want people seeing what you're doing on that balcony anyway? Let's be honest. Bring some tea light candles, open up the patio so you can hear some of that rogue piano music, and enjoy yourself. Btw the showers don't have doors, but you don't want them. They would make it much harder to reach your champagne.

The Mayfair was definitely an interesting place to stay. The rooms are surrounding a huge garden that reminds you of a rainforest. You can sit out in it if you want. There are benches and fountains. No roof there, though. There is another are with sofas and chairs that does have a roof. The balconys off of your room have no view, though. The plant leaves are huge, but it gives you privacy. The room was nice, but ours had a bit of a musty smell. We asked for a spray and they brought it to us. Service was great. The pool area with bar and cabanas, was very nice, also. It is on the top of building, which is the 5th floor. Great views! Had a nice time!

This was our (my husband and I) second time staying at this hotel. The first time we stayed was in January 2011 and we had a pleasant experience; however, I'm not sure if they have had a change of management since that time but, our most recent stay (May 18-May 21) was severely below any travellers' standards. We arrived on Friday afternoon and the hotel room appeared to be well kept. However; that night around 1am a loud siren and alarm inside the hotel went off demanding that all guests leave the hotel immediately due to an emergency. I called the front desk to see if it was a false alarm and got no response, my husband went out into the hallway and spoke with other hotel guests who were confused about the situation. Finally, 15 minutes later, I got my clothes on and my husband and I headed down the stairs only to be stopped by guests coming back up the stairs stating that it was a false alarm. Evidently a rowdy guest had pulled the fire alarm and had been kicked out of the hotel. Now, I understand that things happen; however, my issue was with the way the situation was handled by the hotel staff. I believe there are only 5 guest floors to the hotel, so it wouldn't have taken much effort for staff to be on each floor informing guests that it was just a false alarm; instead of us having to go through the nconvenience of pulling ourselves together in the middle of the night only to learn from other guests that it was a false alarm. I called the front desk to complain about this the next morning and was told that they can't control the actions of their guests. The alarm went off again during our stay and we were detained for 15 minutes in the lobby before we were led up to our room. Next problem, staff was inattentive, rude, and disrespectful. I ordered room service on Saturday morning and Sunday morning. On Saturday morning, I sent the pancakes back because they tasted chewy and artificial and the lady said they would take them off of my ticket. The next morning as the room service attendant was transferring the tray over to my husband to bring into the room, the cranberry juice fell and he offered to bring us a new one. Well after I ate, I looked at the room service ticket and noticed that we were charged for the ham when it should have been included in the meal. I called room service and the same young man who delivered the tray answered the phone. I explained to him the problem and he then said "Well, when your husband dropped the cranberry juice I brought you guys a new one. You know what I'm saying?" Shocked, I said no I don't know what you're saying. Then he said "Well, I can take the ham off the ticket. It's no big deal to me" I said okay and also told him I wanted to check on my ticket from yesterday to make sure the pancakes were taken off, his belligerant response was "Oh God! Man! Really??Man!" I have never had this type of disrespect happen to me at any establishment! In my mind I was thinking "Isn't that your job???"Needless to say, I then requested to speak to his supervisor and after being left on hold 5 minutes I called the front desk to complain about the situation. Next problem, on Monday I went to take a shower in the early afternoon. As I went to the bathtub, I was met with this HUGE RED ROACH crawling up the side of the bathtub (picture attached)! My husband killed it but I told him to leave it there because I wanted someone from the staff to see this. I then called the front desk, which seemed unconcerned, and said they would send maintenance to discard of it. After 10 minutes of no one coming to my room, I went down to speak with the hotel manager. Needless to say, I was unable to sleep well that night, for fear that there would be more roaches making an appearance. The hotel manager offered us a free cabana by the pool to relax, but when we got up there the TVs didn't work (either no sound or no picture) so mu husband was pretty ready to go at that point, as it is the middle of the NBA Playoffs and he wanted to be able to watch the game. My husband and I went on this trip for my birthday getaway but it turned out to be a total disaster! We travel for leisure at least 4-5 times a year and make it a point to stay in 4-star and above hotels,I have never had an experience like this at any hotel and will definitely not be back EVER!
