I only live 3 hrs away so I tend to visit south beach every 2-3 months as a quick getaway. After staying in the Shelborne for the first time, I realized it was a big mistake I will never do again. When I checked in, there was no running water till that evening, the AC was horrible the whole time, and the room size was definitely not what I expected (for the oceanview room). I spent a bit more for the room this time since I might not be coming back for a while and completely regret doing it. The hotel staff/manager were not helpful, eventually I the manager said I can check out early without any fees, but I wouldn't get my money back for 10-12 days. web was not helpful at all, I am very dissatisfied and do not recommend booking this hotel

So...I would stay at the Shelbourne again, but only if I got a cheap rate. This is a beautiful place in need of major updating, especially the old, dirty carpet. Elevators seem to be a chronic problem. The pool is nice, location is great on the beach, workers were friendly and helpful. We had a corner room, which was the size of most standard USA hotel rooms, with a huge closet. Apparently many rooms are much smaller. Restaurant was OK, service slow. The 2 bars were pretty dead at night [Friday], but you don't have to walk far to find the lively Miami night scene. Be prepared for the $* valet parking!!

Our room was dirty when we arrived and the would not change our room. The staff would not call a cab on 2 occasions (even when offered a tip). The pool bar did have enough staff to handle the amount of people ate the pool. Epect to wait at the bar for long peroids of time even though there was no line at the bar. This hotel is rated from as a 3 star. It is absolutely not! The service, cleanliness, and overall curtiousness of the staff is unacceptable. There is nightclub in the hotel which closes at 5:00AM, expect to hear the night until 5:00AM. Our room had an air conditioning unit with a condensate pump in the closet, the pump had a moldy smell that filled the room. The hotel is a non-smoking hotel, however the hallways are filled with smoke. South Beach has many nice old hotel on the beach and the Shelbourne is not on of them. Do not stay here for more than $night. You are only paying for the location-- which is great.

Short story: It is awful. It is dirty! Do NOT stay here!!! NOT worth it!!! SO LOUD= NO sleep! Long story: When we arrived, our room was dirty. There was feminine hygiene products in the trash can, make up stains in the sink and dirty wet towels in the bathroom. That was the only room in the hotel; the hotel was booked. We got no sleep b/c there is a club in the hotel that is open until 5AM and we could hear it from our room. The rooms were not only dirty but VERY OLD and not comfortable at all. The rooms are loud and our neighbors partied all night. The hotel staff was not friendly, unapologetic, and not very helpful. WE got NO Sleep. Also, there was construction above us during the day. So no sleeping-in or rest in the daytime either. It is supposed to be a non smoking hotel but b/c the rooms are so old we could smell smoke coming from our neighbor's room. one night we could here the drunk people vomitting outside our room all night. NOT a three star experience as the website suggests.
