Had a great time. Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Honolulu. I traveled with my 8 year old daughter to this hotel for a vacation the week before 4th of July. As with every vacation experience, this hotel had some great things and some challenges. We were upgraded upon arrival to the Rainbow Tower with an Ocean View (marina/lagoon side) 19th floor - beautiful view. Not sure what we were upgraded from, but it was a nice room - very spacious. I requested 2 beds, but the only available room for that upgrade was 1 king, but not a big deal. The bad news was that the Rainbow Tower floors 20-31 were under renovation and there was construction noise throughout the day, which couild be heard from the pool outside and from the lagoon. We weren't in our room at all during the day, so not a big deal, but I would have preferred a different tower. There are several. The Rainbow Tower is the most convenient to the beach, etc, but it's showing it's age. The carpets are worn, the bathrooms need major upgrades and there was mildew in the tub. It was still worth it for the view. The hot water did not work in the wet bar sink. Maintenance came to fix it, but said they couldn't as they would have to shut down water to the whole building to do so. I knew that wasn't going to happen, but again, not a big deal. Two of the days there, the elevators didn't work and we had to go by foot down 19 floors. I consider us the lucky ones, as we didn't have to go up 19 floors - the people checking in must have been rudely surprised. There's no office season in Waikiki, so I guess it's never convenient to do renovations, but I would have liked to have known before I accepted this room in this Tower. This is by far the nicest and biggest beach access on Waikiki. The waves are perfect for kids of all ages - not too big and not too small. Lot's of fun without a lot of rocks and coral to scrape your feet on. I did get stung by a jelly fish the first day, but it is coming into season, so check the web before you go so you know what to expect. The lagoon is really cool if you don't want be in the ocean. It's a salt water lagoon with recirculating water and is a bit cooler than the ocean. Very refreshing. There are also small fish in the lagoon - not sure why, and that creates some cleaning problems and the bottom (only about 7 feet deep) gets a little slimy in areas. It's a great place to learn how to surf or use a paddle board without getting banged on my real ocean waves. Plenty of shallow water where kids can play with little supervision and few worries. There are several pools on the property. The biggest is the Super Pool and is very large and fun. Plenty of lounge chairs and good poolside service. All the towels you want are provided. The other pools are smaller, including the one with the water slides. That pool is crowded, as it is popular with the kids and the slides are fun. There are a lot of good restaurants on the property, so food selection is not an issue. The prices are outrageous for food, but if you're going to Hawaii, you have to expect that. There's an ABC store on location, which is nice for convenience items, etc. I would have given the service a 5 had it not been for staff at ABC. In particular, it was the native Hawaiian staff. If you were an Islander or Asian, you were treated with a smile and some banter. If you were causcasian, you were treated with virtual contempt. I was pretty shocked. I know these folks don't get paid much for what they do and this store is busy around the clock, but they need a serious attitude check !! Enough of the negatives. The hotel is very nice and worth the price, is convenient walking distance to all the shopping in Waikiki, whether the Ala Moana super mall or the International Mall outdoor shopping. Good restaurants all around the property, so no need to feel locked in to Hilton's offerings. We didn't even rent a car, as fairly inexpensive shuttle service is available to most attractions and will pick you up and drop you off right at the hotel. Many beach activities available - at a price. I will mention one specifically - the Atlantis Submarine. Do yourself a favor - don't go as it's expensive and fairly lame and you'll get your opportunity to buy a picture of your submarine experience for the bargain-basement price of "just" forty dollars. If you want to see what's under the water, use the money to rent a car and go to Hanama Bay for the day. It's less expensive all the way around and you'll see a whole lot more than the man-made reefs lacking in many fish. We also did the sunset dinner cruise on Friday night and saw a perfect rainbow along with a fabulous sunset, followed by the fireworks shot off from the beach every Friday night. This is a much better view than from the beach. We also did the Hilton's Luau. Not bad, but not great either. The food was awesome. It's on the top of the convention center. I'd recommend going to a more traditionial luau on the beach somewhere or at the Polynesian Cultural Center. the only other drawback is no free internet and no wifi. It's pretty pricey per day. All in all, a fabulous vacation and if I go back to Honolulu, this will be my hotel of choice. I strongly recommend.

The grounds, location, staff, etc, were GREAT. But, the room needs a complete redo. The finish on the furniture was peeled off, and the carpeting was only functional(not what I expected from Hilton-maybe Motel 6). If one can ignore the fact that the room probably hasn't been updated in 5 years, the rest of the experience was great. All said, I wouldn't hesitate to take the same room all over again.

Our stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village was everything we had or were expecting. We had the best time and everyone was very helpful. We couldn't have asked for anything else and was completely satisfied with our entire Hawaiian experience. I think about it daily and can't wait till we are able to return.
