The Reef is somewhat unassuming as you drive up to the front, but the property has a fabulous location spilling out directly onto Waikiki beach. The property has undergone a major renovation inside and out and feels clean and up to date. The lobby is open air and has a welcome feel - and a very convenient Starbucks! The Reef is very close to lots of great shopping and restaurants, but we ended up eating onsite frequently as it was just easier with our children. We enjoyed the poolside Kani Ka Pila Grille for casual eating as it included some local dishes beyond the usual and expected fare. We had a wonderfully relaxing dinner at the Ocean House restaurant. The food is delicious and it's perfect if you can dine so you can view the sunset. We ate at the Shorebird also but wouldn't mark it as a favorite. It's got a lively, loud atmosphere and we were caught by surprise that it's grill your own meat at dinner. Thought it was over-priced for what you got. We stayed in a partial ocean stay suite that had more than enough room for a family of four as the kids slept on a very comfortable pull out couch. We had two flat screen tvs and up to date bedding and decorations. The housekeeping staff was always prompt and very friendly. With all the sand that comes in off the beach, they do a nice job of constantly cleaning. We never swam in the pool as we went out to the beach everyday. The beach in front of The Reef is fine, but we preferred to walk down about 5 mins to get to the best sand on the beach. Great sea turtles to look at somedays along the way!

Outrigger Reef was recently remodeled and everything from the lobby to the rooms has a fresh Hawaiiana feel for it. I loved the display just off the lobby with the Outrigger Canoe and history! The lounge has great local musicians and some of the best sashimi I've had.

The hotel was a great for a good price. The hotel is very clean and well kept by staff. The staff is very helpful and goes out of their way to make your stay a pleasant experience. The onsite restaurants are great we ate at all of them. Best way to start your day is the Shorebird breakfast buffet. Get the coupon from the coupon books and two can dine for under $*. Don't swim on the beach in front of the hotel, too many rocks. Walk about five minutes along the beach and swim at Waikiki. Overall it was an excellent vacation, can't wait to go back next year. Oh if renting a car expect to pay $* a night for mandatory valet. Seems like a lot but it was convenient to come and leave as much as possible and just pull up to the front of the hotel and have valet park and retrieve our car. Other hotels usually charge about $* a night for self park so it's worth it.

This hotel was outstanding! They had authentic Hawaiian entertainment in the bar by the pool and it was free. The staff were friendly and supportive. It was almost obsessively clean, and the service by phone and in person was competent, friendly, and excellent. I was very pleased and will stay here again.

We checked in and due to using the web, we didnt specify we wanted one king bed, they booked us a two doubles. We mentioned we were on our honeymoon and they moved us to a king bed room. We had the Aloha partial ocean view which is a great view of the city and ocean, overlooking the pool, restaurant area on our private "lanai" (we called it a porch). Some people complain about the pool and being shaded, but its only in the shade for maybe 2 hours before sunset (which in Sept is around 6:30). We liked the fact we could lay in the shade, that Hawaii sun is brutal! The room was great, has a safe so we could lock up our valuables. We took plenty of tours and when we returned, the room was clean. Staff was fabulous, everybody was so friendly and worked with us. We ended up extending another day and they made that a very easy process as well. The bar area had Hawaiian music every night from 6-9 which is a huge plus. We sat on our lanai and listened to it often, also relaxed around the pool. The Shorebird had mai tais until 5, then we would walk out onto the pier area to watch the sunset. Great hotel and great location! The bell desk held our luggage when we were leaving, the valet was great. Everything was great! If I had to come up with one negative, it would be the beach area seemed crowded on some days. But, walk 20 yards to the right and it was a wide open beach for us to relax at. I would highly recommend this hotel, our honeymoon was perfect!!
