    Our first trip to Cancun we went all inclusive and stayed at the Cancun Palace. We had a supberb stay there so we thought we would try all inclusive again. Occidental Grand was rated 4 1/2 stars but we were extremely disappointed. If you want a quiet relaxing adult place to stay this is NOT it. All the outdoors bars closed the minute it got dark as did all the snack bars. If you didn't want to be inside a restaraunt after dark you didn't have any night life. In the write up it said tips were included but everyone EXPECTED to be tipped. We do not hesitate to tip when the service is good but we have a problem when they expect it even if the service is bad. We did enjoy the grounds and once we moved OUTof build #12 our room was just okay especially compared to the Cancun Palace. The food also was nothing to talk about (it seemed like the same thing every day). The fact that the majority of the restaraunts required reservations and required men to wear long was a little disappointing. I can see one or two to require reservations but they all did except the buffet. I would not recommend this hotel nor would I stay here. Also the solicitation is horrible. You couldn't go anywhere without some coming up to you asking you to take the tour and when you said no they continued to try and convince you to go--that's not my idea of a relaxing vacation!!

    The hotel is more a 3 star then a 4. For a 4 star I got a bargain, for a 3 star paid what I should of. Had some great staff, but most were not real happy, a couple just rude. The food Ok, buffet was better then specailty resturants. But not fantastic. The shows were great, the pool area excellent, beach not alot of sand. Bartenders didn't know how to pour a good drink.

    This is our second time staying at this resort. Our first experience was perfect with no glitches, our second had a couple of glitches. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Everyone was very friendly. Don't leave your air conditioner on with a window open or you'll end up with a lot of water on the floor. Huge bath towels. We had a harder time getting reservations for the restaurants our second time here, do right when you come in if you can (this is what we did the first time & we got all 4 when we wanted). The reservation area for this also has the theme night of the buffets to help make decisions of when you'd like to make these reservations. The buffets have a huge variety of foods that I think can cover all tastes. We traveled with 2 teens, a 1.5 year old, and 4 adults and we all found things to eat. Everyone enjoyed the main evening show that starts at 9:30 pm. Some were so so, but others were very good. The mosquitos were worse this time around (November visit). Our two glitches were getting our room keys to check into our rooms and finding one of the rooms already occupied - which they found another room right away, but it wasn't next to our travel companions, but it was close so it turned out ok. And the second was coming back from a shopping spree and both of our rooms having the keys no longer working. But overall we still enjoyed the resort - even staying by the fun pool was ok as we weren't in our rooms much and it put some fun in a day of just laying by the pool. There are lots other quiet pools if you want.

    Great place for the price. It's like staying at XCaret park and a cab ride to Playa del Carman is only $*. The beach is man made inlet and not quite what I expected but still nice. Pools are gorgous. Activities were a little cheesy but fun. All meals were nicely presented. One caution: they have granite floors in the hallways and due to the open floor plan, get wet. These are very slick when they get wet. Several people had fallen during our stay.
