After staying here previously and enjoying it my partner and I returned in Dec. 09 for two nights. We booked our room online. When we arrived at the hotel we were informed that we had no reservation in their systems and the front desk clerks urged us to make another one at their counter. We were assured that we would not be double-charged if the original reservation were to surface. Several hours later in the room the front desk clerk called informing us that the original reservation popped up and that we were indeed being charged for two rooms. I reminded her that we were told this wouldnt happen also as it was early in the day they could still book the other room for someone else anyway. I was told since the reservation was made through a partner website of theirs #40alien to us as the site we booked from right in front of them at the counter appeared as their official site#41 there was nothing they could do etc. We had no intention of using a second room and spoke to each person up their ladder including the hotel manager sending numerous e-mails to solve the situation but to no avail. Though we were assured many times by each member of staff nothing was done and in fact mysterious additional charges showed up on our account on top of the extra room from things we did not use or purchase. After the runaround for two weeks from the hotel I notified my bank in detail of the problem. The bank reversed all charges having investigated the claim and determining fraud on the part of the hotel. Its unfortunate that though this is a pleasant place to stay the incompetent staff ruined it for us.

Zelda and I are not business types, we are glorified backpackers. We stayed at Emporio for one week. Lovely hotel, aimed primarily for business professionals. Our room was smallish, but quality. Private safe for passport or surplus cash. Bathroom nicely furnished, water reliably hot. Room immaculate. Staff courteous, professional & attentive. Limited English. Daytrips: Reception arranged trip to Teotihuacan (check tip), and tried to arrange taxi to Tepotzlan. Fare requested was absurd, however, and we caught bus. Internet limited to 2 computers. Food excellent. Generiic restaurants within a 5 minute walk, or go to Zocalo or Rosa. We will definitely stay at Emporio next time we visit Mexico. .

I was apprehensive about making arrangements for a hotel independent of the conference I was attending, but this worked out beautifully. Service, accommodations, and location were just what I hoped for, all for a reasonable price. The room was small ("petite") but very well furnished, very clean, and had everything I needed. The neighborhood is interesting, not too long a week to city center, and feels safe, with families, couples, and all kinds of people walking along the streets night and day having a good time. The lobby is elegant and service personnel are attentive, friendly, and well-trained. I have no complaints except the internet was slow and there was no view from my room, but those were minor matters. I would definitely bring my wife and stay here for a pleasure trip next time.

I visited Mexico City mid October 2009. The Emporio Hotel is a great hotel to stay at, walking distance to El Zocalo. My single rooms was a little small from the norm however fine for a single person or a couple to stay in, and plus is you are traveling you won't be much in your room. My room and hotel was very clean, the staff is truly amazing very personal and friendly. I was alone traveling in Mexico City which I felt safe. Internet access is provided for guest to use. Tours can be booked at the hotel at reasonable prices, although I did feel the hotel taxi is a little over price. Taxis and buses run right in front of the hotel and being alone I felt safe. The food at the hotel is very good and I'm a picky chef. I normally staff at a chain hotel when I visit Mexico City however, from now on I would definitely return to the Emporio Hotel. My over all experience was great.
