    Despite all of the negative reviews we decided to make our own decision about Mismaloya. It is a wonderful beach resort with fine dining, excellent theme night buffets, entertainment and activities. We were upgraded to a king suite and our room was cleaned spotless everyday. I would definitely recommend the Barcelo we will be back. The only warning I would give is there are sand fleas or invisible bugs. Over a week later and we are still experiencing itchy red bumps. The locals said mosquitoes, we read about sand fleas, but also not sure if we received from the mules when we did the canopy tour. Bring bug spray! Otherwise, we have no complaints and loved the resort!

    My wife and I chose to book our vacation and third anniversary at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta based upon a previous stay at Barcelo Los Cabos that was wonderful. Barcelo resorts are comfortable, clean and well maintained, and this resort was no exception. They provide great all-inclusive amenities for those who want to spend a relaxing time without having to travel outside the resort. We were able to book a few snorkeling excursions at a reasonable price and transportation to and from the events was no hassle and inexpensive. Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is not located directly in town but south of the main population, so it is a little more private and quiet and on a small cove where the waves are calm. One thing did influence me to lower the overall rating down from the mostly four point individual ratings I gave: halfway through our week long stay three busloads of college age youth checked in. Within an hour of check in they were standing four deep around the pool bar. The music volume was turned up to a level where it was difficult to relax, talk and enjoy the pool experience. The noise level grew. There was no longer a peaceful place to lounge by the pool without the constant noise, shouting and loud “Party Rock” atmosphere. Over the following three days a DJ showed up poolside from about noon through 5 PM and the music blasted from four big loudspeakers around the pool bar. The DJ seemed to have an infatuation with his own voice shouting into the microphone. Banners were hung around the main pool for a travel website. The activities in the pool and around the poolside were videotaped which suggests it was some sort of staged promotional event. It's seems that the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta management interest was focused elsewhere. They did not intervene or attempt to discourage the youth from dragging furniture into the pool, diving from the waterfall into the pool, or to control the volume of music. Even going up to our room did not remove us from the noise as all balconies face the central pool area at this resort. For the most part the staff members were helpful and pleasant. I put the fault here on management and security for not stepping in to better control this specific situation to the benefit of all guests. It's as if they were afraid to do so, or just ignorant of the needs of the families, couples, and elderly guests trying to enjoy the pool area.

    We had a great time. The food was good but not great. The specialty restaurants were not that good except for the Italian Restaurant which was OK. The staff around the pool constantly kept you entertained and the shows were good.. Very clean rooms and housekeeping were amazing. We also liked the fact that the resort was not in the hub of the city. it was about 40 minutes from the airport.. secluded more than the other major chains.
