I had a great experience at this hotel having stayed there for a week. The hotel is nicely fitted out with a distinct absence of the 'generic' hotel feel that I get in a large hotel chain. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and other things like the bar, restaurant and gym were all a very pleasant surprise - definitely well above my expectations. The cost of internet access was a negative however, when this is freely available like hot running water in many hotels, expect to pay more at the Clift than it's really worth. Top marks for have to go to the hotel staff who were universally helpful and friendly. I had a problem with an item being delivered to the hotel (not the Clift's fault) and the hotel manager Carlos in particular went to extraordinary lengths to help out. Highly recommended, I will return there when I am next in SF

Issues during our weeklong stay: During check-in, my first name (Suzanne) was misspelled (Susanne) on the reservation paperwork at the hotel. When this issue was immediately brought to the attention of the front desk staff person assisting us, she did not seem to care at all. There was no offer to fix any of the paperwork or the hotel "charge" cards that were issued to my husband and me. Also during check in, my husband spoke to the manager on duty concerning the fact that the Clift's website had incorrect travel instructions when utilizing the BART. These incorrect instructions from the hotel's website caused a delay in our arrival at the hotel. Again, the manager on duty did not seem to care one way or the other. The room was clean, but the bathtub drained very slowly, and this made taking a shower somewhat unpleasant. In addition, one night of our stay, cigarette smoke was coming into our room through the vent in the room's closet (which was not secured/broken). The front desk was notified of this issue, but it did not appear that any action was taken to fix the loose vent. Finally, it seemed that the left front set of doors to the main entrance of the hotel were always blocked by either hotel staff and/or guests congregating around that area. This was somewhat frustrating when we were trying to enter/exit the hotel. On a positive note, the housekeeping staff always kept our room clean when we requested daily service of our room.
