We splurged and got an ocean front room at the hotel and it was totally worth every penny. However, what we failed to consider was that the restaurants and room service would be similarly priced. On the first morning we got breakfast and for 2 people it was $60. Essentially if you wanted to eat and pay any reasonable amount of money you would have to leave the property which meant a 20-30 minute drive. There also was no nightlife. The pool bar closed pretty early and even it was open, there didn't seem to be many active evening types staying at the hotel. This may be a plus or minus depending on what you are looking for. The spa was ok but not spectacular. We got a couples massage which was $300 and it was quite good but there weren't many other amenities at the spa (like pools, etc). Service overall was quite good. The property was spacious but a tiny bit dated. We toured the Four Seasons which is in the same price range and were way more impressed at the property, the food selection (although similarly high priced), and the service. If we were to go again and want to do an expensive hotel we'd probably choose there.

This hotel was simply AWESOME! The staff were very prompt, courteous and friendly. The property was right on the beach, and was not crowded what so ever. It was very relaxing and peaceful. They provide many free activities, we didn't have time to experience them all. Free wi-fi was great!! There were also covered lounge chairs, hammocks and cabanas set out along the beach for guests to use. We didn't eat on property, since there was a grocery store nearby (with free shuttle service from the hotel anywhere in the near area), but the coffee shop on property was delicious! The parking was not free...as stated in other reviews...but we did not mind. I usually am not too impressed by hotels, but this one knocked it out of the park! I will not even consider staying somewhere else when we return to Hawaii!!

This is our second trip in 2 yrs. to Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. I just had to stay here because of the serenity you feel at this location. You are greeted as soon as you arrive with leis, cold juice and face cloths to just freshen up while checking in. The staff is very friendly & courteous. The deluxe ocean view rooms are spectacular, with balcony (just because of the view of the ocean that you get from your room). The room is comfortable with wonderful smelling toiletries. There is a refrigerator to store drinks & food if you need to. They have turn down service!!! There are several daily scheduled activities that you can participate in, some require a fee. The beach is wonderful. We visited in October and there was just a handful of people on the beach, very peaceful. I would recommend this hotel. This year, parking fee was added.
