After reading some pretty terrible reviews, my husband and I were very relieved to have a pleasant experience at the Hotel Whitcomb. The room was spacious and clean. The only "complaint" that I would have is that the water pressure could be better and it took a while for the shower to heat up, but I have experienced far worse at other hotels. If you are expecting state of the art TVs and Four Seasons accomodations then this hotel is not right for you. But for us, it met our needs, which is a clean place to sleep and shower. It is also very conveniently located for those who need to use public transportation. The F line street cars stops right in front of the hotel and the BART station is also right in front. There are a lot of homeless people in this area but we did not feel harassed. The customer service rep was very helpful with directions and telling us which bus line to use to get to our destination. Also, we received a call from the manager right after we checked in to make sure our room was satisfactory. My husband and I would definitely stay at the Hotel Whitcomb again.

The Hotel Whitcomb is a charming hotel with wonderful staff and clean rooms with some of the best pillows I've had in hotels. Although the neighborhood is on the edge of not so good parts of town, the Bart stop is lliterally outside the front door so we had no issues, even returning late at night. The Starbucks in the lobby was great. The diner across the street stayed open late just for us! The Orpheum Theatre is also across the street. The rooms are somewhat small for a family, perhaps, but perfect for cozy and clean. If you are looking for charm, history, kindness and a very clean room, the Whitcomb is for you! We loved it. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for a hotel with character, charm, and "Old San Francisco" character, then Hotel Whitcomb is for you. From the time I arrived at the hotel, I felt like I had stepped into another era. I was greeted out of my taxi by the local hotel "tour guide" who was decked out in tails and a top hat. He added to the charm of the hotel and was a good source of local tourist information. The hotel lobby is beautiful from the chandelier to the decor. I felt like I had stepped into another era. The hotel also had a bell boy, which I loved for the price point of the hotel. Although the hotel is reminiscent of a different era, there are many modern amenities. There is a Starbucks in the lobby as well as an in-house restaurant. They also have an internet cafe complete with modern computers, printers, and ports. The proximity to the other dining facilities and the Orpheum Theater makes it a prime location to stay. I tried the breakfast omelette at the in-house restaurant and it was good if not a little overpriced. I had a room with a queen-sized bed and I was completely comfortable. The weather is so lovely in San Francisco that you don't need air conditioning so I kept my windows open for most of my visit. The air conditioner did work fine. Again, the hotel has old San Francisco charm, so many of the older architechural features of the building are in tact. If you like places with charm and character, the room will be perfect for you. The two cons about my room were the bad cable reception on one of my television channels and the fact that my wake-up call feature didn't work on my phone. If I had to had a third con, it was that my bedside alarm didn't go off either or work. Luckily, I had a cell phone for that. The hotel staff was very apologetic for the reception problem and explained that they had recently switched cable providers. The hotel also offers free wi-fi and I had no problems whatsoever getting online from my room. The hotel staff were very courteous and professional and willing to offer help at any time. I interacted with people at the front desk, housekeeping, and security and all of them made me feel like a special guest. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Whitcomb and plan to stay there again for my next trip to San Francisco. I got great value for my money and I felt safe the whole time I was there.
