Great hotel for the price. This was my second stay and it was very good. The room was as requested and once we turned on the A/C cooled down quickly. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. The bellhops are the best!! They quickly got us a cab when we needed one and recommended a car service for my ride to LaGuardia-it was the quickest and nicest ride I have had. The windows open so that is nice for some fresh air. Conveniently located for the shows and Central Park. There are several nice cafes/restaurants around the corner that offer good meals at a reasonable price. Note-if you are from the south or mid-west add $* to the price of things at home and you will get an idea of how much sodas, yogurts, etc. cost in the city. Whole foods is a reasonable walk away at Columbus Circle and they have a hot/cold/salad bar that is amazing. The hotel is old which adds to its charm, it has character and I appreciate that in a place I stay. I didn't spend that much time in the room anyway as I was out exploring the city, but the time I did spend there was nice. There is a nice lobby with comfy chairs. A lot of tour groups do stay here so just be prepared to wait on the elevators occasionally. But to me the mix of languages and cultures adds to the charm of the hotel. If business brings us back to NYC again I will definitely stay here again.

The location of this hotel can't be beat if you're going to Carnegie Hall, Broadway plays, Letterman Show, shopping on 5th Ave. I can't speak the rest of the hotel, but I think I found the worst shower in the world. Hotels should require their staff to randomly stay in various rooms to see what the experience for their guests are like. The shower is about 3' x 3'. The water pressure is great, unfortunately it blasts out of a shower head that makes it feel like needles on your face, which is where it hits if you're 5'4' or so like me, and it's not adjustable. The shower curtain blows IN on you, from the current created by the extreme spray. If it weren't so grungy, like the walls and floor, you could think of it as a hug, but it's more like being grabbed by someone you don't want touching you. The bathroom is so small and the mirror so high, I attempted at one point to stand on the toilet to dry my hair. Taller people might fare better, though. My assessment: Decent hotel & staff, great location, bad, bad, shower. In this room, at least.
