This was a business trip with my wife, and I wanted to be at a hotel with access to the Galleria. Originally I could have booked the room for $* but was nervous would have to change my plans and ended up at $*/nite. Also, keep in mind that valet parking is $*/nite. Dated but clean room with a good view. Paid hi-speed internet in the room, so I went to the lobby to check email. At best I think this is average. There was 1 bar of soap the first night. If you don't want to be connected to the Galleria there are plenty of options in the area and better values to be had.

The Westin Oaks in Houston was less than I expected. Hotel could use some maintenance. Friendliness and professionalism of staff was average. Elevator was slow. There are no vending machines in the hotel--guests must go into the connected Galleria Mall to purchase drinks/water/snacks which was an inconvenience for me. Thank goodness there was a coffee vendor outside the mall entrance where I was able to purchase bottled water and snacks. I was attending a conference at the Westin Galleria which is about a five minute walk through the Galleria Mall so the walk is all inside and air conditioned which was a plus. Parking is free if you park in the lower level garage but you must walk down a short stairway with your luggage to get to the elevator to go up to the front desk and guest room levels. Valet parking is available at the lobby level but I travel on a budget and did not use it.

The room was quite comfortable with the regular features you would expect in such a hotel. But it does not have wireless internet which was a big drawback. Also, the hotel chagred me again for the room after paying for it through travelocity. The guy at the baggage check area did not seem to want to help until you accosted him. That part was frustrating.
