The Dunhill opened in 1929 and is Charlotte's only member of Historic Hotels of America and one of its first luxury hotels. Its singular architecture and powering presence added immeasurably to Charlotte's skyline upon its completion. Fitting of the times, the hotel was fashionably elegant with a lavishly appointed lobby and grand ballroom. The hotel thrived even through the Great Depression as a favorite choice of prominent business merchants who traveled extensively by rail. Today, the Dunhill Hotel is one of Charlotte's few remaining landmarks of that distinctive period. The Dunhill is located in downtown Charlotte's financial district, approximately six miles from the Douglas International Airport, two miles from Mint Museum of Art, and four miles from Charlotte Coliseum.
The hotel's dining option, Monticello Restaurant, serves international cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service, laundry and dry cleaning, butler and valet service, babysitting, evening turndown, and four meeting rooms.
The lobby and guestrooms share the elegance of 18th-century European furnishings with original works of art, hand-sewn draperies, and four-poster beds creating an ambiance reminiscent of famous hotels of the twenties and thirties. The penthouse features a dining area, fireplace, step-down whirlpool tub, oriental rugs, and retains its original marble floor. Double balconies offer a breathtaking view of the city. Each of the hotel's 60 guestrooms has cable TV, an iron, air-conditioning, a business desk, voicemail, and two-line telephone.
