The 5th floor Pavillion non smoking room was really quiet, we had great new mattresses, clean room. Tub had a bit of rust stain around the faucet but definitely clean. This was not the new tower, it is over the parking garage, no rooms overhead. Could easily access the parking garage without getting wet or going through the casino. Two block walk to the Fremont Street experience. Really great breakfast for a reasonable, not Vegas, price. Friendly staff. Definite recommendation. Super easy access to the freeway, too. Gave us cash for free slot play and coupons for discount on meals in the casino.

We just got back Nov.10th 2009 and we loved this place. Very clean and great staff. We always stay here and really like the tower rooms. They have great comps when you use your players card. The security can't be beat. When you get into the elevator you put your room card in to get to your floor which is great. No one without a card gets anywhere.

The hotel is old, but well maintained. You actually feel "old" Las Vegas. The rooms are dated ( maintained to capture the old Las Vegas), but that adds to the experience. The staff was tremendous, especially in The Cafe Cortez. The dealers were professional, and the sports book is by far the best in downtown, and maybe in all of Vegas. The El Cortez is the hidden jewel of Vegas. If you are looking for fancy fixtures, rude people, the influx of euro-trash, and over priced meals stay on the strip. If you are looking for a real Las Vegas experience, the El Cortez is the place to stay.

  • SHOULD BE CALLED "EL CRAPO HOTEL"

I went to vegas with my grandma and she wanted to stay in old town Vegas. So we decided on the EL CORTEZ..this is the worst hotel i have ever been in, the room was the size of a bathroom, the bathroom the size of an elevator..extremely small. Then my grandma wanted an extra blanket because it was winter time, the housekeeping staff was not helpful stating that they were on lunch and we would have to wait at least 45 min before could get anything including towels.!!!! then when we called the front desk they werent any more help either. Also the hotel DID NOT HAVE ANY ELEVATORS, SO I HAD TO GET MY GRANDMOTHER AND ALL OUR LUGGAGE UP 2 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS, AND IM ONLY 5 FEET TALL . The games were weak and not one person was winning and the smoke smell was so thick i had to use my inhaler( i have very bad asthma) several times throughout the 3 days we were there. After all the issues we had we were even offered a free stay, I WILL NOT BE STAYING THERE EVEN FOR FREE. IF YOU ENJOY HAVING A SMALL ROOM, EVEN SMALLER BATHROOM, NO ELEVATOR, BAD NEIGHBORHOOD (YOU MIGHT GET ROBBED OUT THERE AT NIGHT) AND A SMOKE SMELL THAT WOULD NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CLOTHES FOR OVER A MONTH THEN THIS HOTEL IS FOR YOU. OVER ALL THE STAFF HAD BAD ATTITUDES, AND THE ROOM WAS EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT I PAID FOR..DONT PAY OVER 20.00 NIGHT HERE, THAT IS THE ENTIRE HOTELS WORTH, AND THEY DONT HAVE ANY WEBSITE OR COMPLAINT NUMBER SO YOU GO UN-HEARD. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE, WOULDN'T LET MY DOG STAY THERE BECAUSE I LOVE HIM TOO MUCH TO TREAT HIM LIKE THAT.
