  The room was a little small, but clean and the bed was huge & comfortable. The room was all white with a flat screen tv, a mirror covered the entire wall and there was a cool little bathroom. Bad news, there was no real water pressure in the shower and the water only gets luke warm at best. If your looking for space this is not the place, but like most people in South Beach your not going to be in the room much. The bed was nice and comfortable and the room was clean. The penguin also has a nice little cafe for breakfast and lunch, that was pretty good. If your looking for nice little room close to the ocean, this not a bad place to stay. I would stay again. I hope this helps.

• Terrible Experience!! A nightmare!!!

  We arrive, confirmed reservations in hand, empty the car and hand the keys to the valet who promltly drives off. we then wait, while a very confused desk clerk deals ...

  We arrive, CONFIRMED RESERVATIONS IN HAND, empty the car and hand the keys to the valet who promltly drives off. We then wait, while a very confused desk clerk deals with the couple before us. When it is our turn, the Clerk looks at our CONFIRMED RESERVATION PRINT-OUT from our internet booking and claims he has no record. He says he has no room for us. He will not look for another room for us. He will not contact his contracted internet vendor. He says "Too Bad, you need to contact them", AND REFUSED TO GIVE US A NUMBER TO CONTACT THEM! DO NOT MAKE INTERNET RESERVATIONS WITH THIS HOTEL. If they get a walk-in that will pay a higher price, your reservation will be lost!!! P.S. They wouldn't comp our 15 minute parking either. Adding insult to injury!

• Biggest mistake

  booking this hotel was probably the worst thing I could have ever done. After a long flight in I finally get to the hotel to find that my reservation was switched to their sister hotel the President which is directly behind the penguin. The Penguin could not accomodate the two beds I requested when booking. The room consisted of two beds, a tv on a mirrored wall and a small glass table used as a night table between the two. I was expecting to stay at a hotel with at least a dresser and handles on the doors. Where was I to put my stuff but on the floor next to the bed. There was construction going on as I woke up to someone hammering right next door. As helpful as the staff tried to be no one could answer why my hotel was changed and why there wasn't a manager I could speak with. Needless to say I wound up switching hotels and would never, ever book to stay at the Penguin Or the President ever again.

  The first room we were put in had a leak in a pipe in the restroom. Our ""queen bed"" was two twin beds pushed together. The second room's television and hair dryer did not work. The hotel replaced the hair dryer, but we were left with a dead television. No compensation for any of our inconveniences.

  then stay away! Tthe A/C noise is astoundingly unbearable. I stayed during the time when temps dropped below 80s, so I thought opening the windows would solve the problem : it was as bad from other A/Cs buzzing away. The lobby and elevators are very dark and scary looking! The rooms are modern, go along with the Art Deco experience in the area. Lots lots of mirrors and Beautiful furnature. The downside is you'd better keep your curtains closed to avoid gawkers from hotells across your room. Overall - great location with terrible sleeping experience.
