This was our second stay at the California. It has not changed. The same good service, clean room, good coffee, and good food. Must be the reasons we continue to stay there. It is not only the food and all the rest, but also the location. In the heart of the Fremont Street Experience, but away from the noise. Close to the Deuce (for Strip travel) pick up and drop off.

This hotel was clean, nice and friendly. Not a Hilton but certainly accessible to all downtown offices. The staff was very friendly and happy. Next to Freemont street so you can easily do the downtown experience. They cater to older and Hawaii travelers so the other guests were also friendly and kind. I would stay again if I needed an economical place to stay.

Whether by coincidence or for reason of culture of the guests, the hotel is very quiet. I heard No noisy children, No loud people in the halls, no slamming doors. In general, No rude, lewd, loud behavior. I had no problems sleeping at night nor napping during the day. The location of the hall is about a half block from Freemont street---a very easy walk even for those least prone to exercise. If you want to see the strip the double decker (Deuce) bus station is about a block away--it takes you right to the strip (2.5 miles away)--10-15 minute bus ride. Also the hotel provides a shuttle to the strip--but it runs only once every 1.5 hours--in my opinion--that wasn't convenient enough to be useful. The condition of the room is as good as most say a ""La Quinta"" or ""Hampton Inn"" in any OTHER major city. It met our needs, it was clean, and had a comfortable bed, it was not a huge room, but it was not tiny--perfect room for 2 adults. We wanted exactly what we got from California hotel. We preferred to spend our money on things other than lodging. Be sure to walk across the street to the Main Street Station if you like microbrews. The hotel pool (floor 13) is relatively small. The hotel staff did their jobs, I was not ""wowed"", but I was not disappointed. Overall a good place to stay if you want to spend money on ""Fun Stuff"" in Vegas--instead of dumping all your money into paying for your room.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and the casino floor is full of interesting and fun people. I've normally always stayed on the strip, but the close proximity of the other casino's gave a good variety at a much more reasonable price, and the ability to get a comp cocktail while gambling was everywhere - almost non-existent now on the strip. We had a great time and I can't wait to go back. Room service breakfast was quick and reasonable, the Brewery and Buffet at Main Street are excellent. Highly recommend!

The rooms were clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. While we didn't eat at the California, we walked across the enclosed walkway to Main Street Station and thoroughly enjoyed their wonderful breakfast buffet ($6.99) and had great dinners at their 777 Pub where the portions served are HUGE! As ""older"" folks, we liked having everything within a short walking distance vs. the long long walks in the hotels on the Strip. We would particularly recommend the Oriental chicken salad at ""777"" -- we split it and it was plenty for two. Even the maids were friendly and always said ""hello"" and ""have a nice day!"" There is nothing fancy about the rooms, but they are very adequate and very clean. Fremont Street is very close with all the shopping, gambling, food, etc., you could want. We met many friendly people from Hawaii, who always stay at the California (they said).
