My girlfriend and I just stayed 7 nights at the Amsterdam Manor and had a fantastic time. The hotel is located in a great spot - a few minutes from downtown Oranjestad and a few minutes from all the nightlife in the high rise area. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel so you can easily get anywhere you need to go! The staff at AM was superb - from check in with Julio and Cheyene at the front deck, to Nicolas the bell man (who gave us the great tip about taking the bus versus cabs - much less expensive and very easy), to Vincent at the bar, to Rozanda at the activities desk - everyone was super friendly, helpful, and made our stay fun and relaxing. The hotel room was excellent - nice furniture, appliances (we had a 2 bedroom suite), bed, and bathrooms. Balcony had both lounge chairs and a table and chairs with a great view of the pool, bar, Eagle Beach and the ocean! By the way, Eagle Beach is a clean, uncrowded beach - probably the best on the island for relaxing. (if you want great snorkeling go to Boca Catalina,Baby Beach or De Palm Island). Mango's restaurant and bar in the hotel is good - we had breakfast and dinners there. Food is fresh, and the staff is nice and attentive. Passions on the beach was also good and both are very convenient. The Tuesday night dance review at the Hotel was the only thing that we thought needed to be improved. It had little traditional dance and music was mostly American pop and modern dance moves. The AM was a great choice and exceeded our expectations! For quiet and a great beach this is it!

When our DePalm shuttle (which stopped at any resort for which there were travelers present on the bus) pulled up in front of the hotel, someone actually said aloud, "Ooh, I wonder who's staying here?!" I felt very pleased then to have it be myself & my husband getting off there! And even though our already late-evening flight had been delayed & we didn't get to the hotel until 11pm, check-in was smooth & hassle-free. We were greeted warmly, and the woman at the desk even called the bar (which was to close at 11) and asked the bartender to wait just a few minutes to make us some daquiris to celebrate our arrival on the island! We had only booked the most basic room, so it was a little small, but it was plenty adequate for our needs, and it had an ocean-view balcony! (I would recommend looking into a larger room if traveling with family and/or for a more extended stay.) It was clean & simple, and the dark wood accents (furniture, frames, etc.) were carried over into the bathroom mirror & shelf, giving it a pulled-together, sophisticated feel. (One thing to note: There did not appear to be any elevators, so if you have trouble with stairs, be sure to ask about a first-floor room.) The bed was a bit firm, which felt great the first couple nights but then became a bit much (I have a bad back). The pool looked a bit small, but we never even used it; when you're a few steps away from gorgeous Eagle Beach, let's be honest, the pool should not be your first priority! Rozanda at the Activities Desk was an immense help in planning our excursions! I would recommend Amsterdam Manor & would stay again!

We stayed at the Amsterdam Manor a couple of weeks ago and I must say this was the best vacation I?ve ever had! We arrived to the hotel shortly after 1pm. The room wasn?t ready (check-in time is 4pm), but they allowed us to change in the lobby?s restroom and off to the beach we went. We got an upgrade from a standard studio to a (super nice) one bedroom suite. Everything was very clean (utensils, dishes, bathroom, etc.) Before I went to Aruba I read many reviews about this place and remember asking myself?? how can people stay here for two weeks??? Now, it?s all clear to me. I could have stayed a month!!! We went to the bar across the beach every day. All bartenders were very friendly and the lunches we had there were pretty decent (hello salmon wrap!!) They have a Happy Hour from 5-6pm, all drinks are 2 for 1 (same drink though). My boyfriend and I got beach chairs, two drinks each and waited for that magnificent sunset that Aruba has every day. Passions is a restaurant on the beach (the waiter was barefoot!) and is the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner! I suggest you make reservations. The food was OK. Seafood soup and catch of the day covered with a cream (with baby shrimps) were salty, but the bread and Caesar salad are awesome!! The bus stop is (literally) in front of the hotel, so ride with the locals! . We didn?t need to rent a car. The bus fare is $2.30 round trip and bus drivers point you in the right direction. Also, look for Tulip restaurant (5 minute walk). They have an excellent dinner (good portions) and a decent breakfast. The breakfast is a buffet European style for $8.50.

Overall experience I would rate as very good. Pro's: - Mango's & Passions restaurants - Great food & nice atmosphere - Happy Hour (""two for 1"" drinks at 5pm and 9pm) 5pm at beach bar and 9pm at pool bar - Friendly staff & front desk staff - Location (Eagle Beach - my favorite beach) - Passion's Beach bar (right on the beach!) :-) - Big ice cold jug of water always available at the beach bar - you help yourself whenever you want. Con's: - Mildew/musty smell in our room (the pillow cases, bedding, etc all smelled like they were moldy). I spritzed perfume on my pillow every night ;-) - Shower (open air type made from stone, no shower curtain = very wet bathroom) - Dim lighting in bathroom - Hotel is actually across the street from the beach, not right on it as their pictures on the website lead you to believe (you need to walk across one small, narrow service road and then another small main road). - Towels; you get a towel 'card' upon check in. They limit one towel per card (per guest). I don't know about you, but one towel on the beach is never enough. Thanksfully, some of the front desk staff obliged by letting me take 2 towels for one card :) Overall, it was fine for us. If you are super picky about your room, I wouldn't suggest staying there. We had a great time & were happy to be back in Aruba. Scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best) - I'd rate 6 or 7 :-)

My sister and I just returned from the AMBR and found it to be exactly to our liking. It is a small family oriented boutique hotel situated across the street from Eagle Beach. There is transportation both north to California Lighthouse area and south to Orangestad shopping. Casinos are walking distance or a short bus hop. We especially appreciated the efficiency kitchen, microwave, frig and a great Jacuzzi. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Two restaurants are available on site and many more within walking distance. Computers with web cams are available in the lobby area for free. We would definately return to Amsterdam Manor!
