My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Strand on September 25/26, 2009. We were horrified by the condition of the first room as it had a visibly dirty carpet, and, a strong dirty odour. The second room was somewhat better, but, still had a visibly dirty carpet. Since we were checking in very late, we were adverse to trying to locate other accommodation at a late hour, so, we complained again. This time, we were placed in a suite which was satisfactory. The bed and bedding were great, but, the hotel is old and tired, and, in need of major renovations, ie. new bathtubs, carpets, etc. The breakfast buffet which is common in Finnish hotels also did not meet usual Finnish breakfast buffet standards as there was no presentation as the food appeared to have been thrown on the plates. Having travelled extensively in Finland during the past 3 decades, my husband and I were disappointed in the lack of quality. The front desk staff were accommodating and friendly, but, the hotel requires an overhaul and the food preparation staff, some training. We would not hesitate staying in a Hilton Hotel, but, we would avoid this one.
