So we went in April 2010 and the weather was wonderful. The hotel was very clean and the people that worked in all sections were as polite as could be! The view from the room was just like the pic you see on thier advertisement. AWESOME! Food was great! They cooked out by the pool every morning and it was something different everyday. Rooms were nice, but you have to remember to keep the patio door shut or your room will be soaked! Going again next year!!

this was the worst place I have ever stayed. We were put in a room 5 hours late after arriving we have been traveling for 7 hours and been up for 48 since we just got married a day ago. We had paper thin walls on both side so when people talked we felt like they were in our room. Bed really hard. We went to play tennis and the court was next to a dumpster and the air conditioning unit. mmmm the smell.. The food was so gross we couldnt wait to get home. we ate more food in the airports coming home then what we did in 6 days in mexico. this was suppose to be romantic and it was not at all. The travel agents downstairs in the lobby that book outings for you sent us on a trip for 12 hours and forgot to tell us for 12.00 more we could of got lunch we didnt know and so we never ate lunch that day outside in the sun and water all day.. they said the offered dancing lesson daily when we asked the front desk where are they held he said we dont have dance lessons . so the staff * ... Yes I told him off when we got back. I would not even send my worst enemy here. just stay away...

We stayed at Rui Cancun March 2010 for 5 days. The hotel was only mediocre - rooms are outdated. The pool area is small and crowded and people, including hotel staff, claimed beach chairs by 6:00 A.M. There was no poolside bar service the first four days. It suddenly started on the fifth day, but there were very few waiters. There is basically no beach at this hotel and it is almost impossible to walk along the along the shoreline because there are large rocks and walls from other hotels. So, in essence you are trapped in the small area of the Riu. The staff was business-like, at times unfriendly. We waited in line by 6:30 A.M. to get into the specialty restaurants, and often the restaurants were filled;; they do, however, let you make a reservation for the following day. The specialty restaurants were OK, not anything super special. If you don't like to get up at the crack of dawn to get a reservation or reserve a beach chair, you are out of luck. There is no ambiance and Mexican "feel" compared to other resorts we've been to in Mexico. I felt like this could have been a hotel from any small town in the United States; there just wan't anything uniquel. We've been to a Riu Palace before, and assumed the Riu name meant something; obviously there is a big difference. We won't be going back to a Riu.

So the Hotel was outstanding. Food and drinks a plus for an all inclusive resort. I sprung for the junior suite and was visually amazed when I walked in. HOWEVER, the room was extremely hot and the ceiling fan was broke. All the lights had to be replaced as we were settling in. Would have been nice to be done before we got there. Also, the air conditioning did not work the first night we were there and thus sweat all through the night. They "fixed" it the next day but the air only trickled out. After two nights with this poor air and no fan the manager called us and told us that the air "was working" and isn't designed for this big of a room. So basically the better, suite rooms have an air conditioner that doesnt cool the room one bit. Also, the ceiling fan was looked at 2 nights in a row and told they would replace it the next morning...didnt happen. They also don't carry protable fans for guests to use. So once again I had to talk to the manager and they finally fixed it on the last night we stayed there. So 1 out of 4 nights was a decent sleep. The bathroom was huge with no ventilation so after one shower the room filled with steam. My advice, get a regular room unless sweating in your sleep is something you want to do on vacation. Other than the rooms this resort was awesome and would defintely recommend it to anyone looking to have a great time in Cancun.
