It was an ok stay. The place looks nothing like the pictures. Unless you are looking for a hotel to get drunk at and pass out for a night I do not suggest it. I was woken up at 3:30am by a drunken fight. I was just there to visit a friend who works on one of the cruise ships down there. If you are looking for something that is clean and you can fall asleep in before 3am I would not suggest this hotel.

great little hotel right on the beach, just cross the street and relax. Listen, this place is no luxury brand hotel but there are plenty of those in fort lauderdale. My wife and I wanted to get away for the weekend and away from the craziness of Miami, and this was perfect. We had free parking too. We drove over to Las Olas and had a nice dinner. The beach in Fort Lauderdale is very relaxing. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and are planning on doing this again. You can't beat the price!

The first 300 words of letter I wrote to The Tropic Cay: Dear Sirs, Unfortunate for me and my forgiving girlfriend, we recently spent five soul-crushing days at your hotel, The Tropic Cay in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This was by far the worst hotel experience in my many years of traveling all over the world. The low prices of your hotel on Travel online persuaded me to try your business, especially since the photos included showed a very nice and clean hotel near the beach. As a result, by the end of the week, your establishment filled us with a perpetual sense of frustration and dread. Here is the list of offenses your hotel committed against us: 1. Mold on the shower curtain and liner (both disgusting and unhealthy, plus embarrassing for you). 2. The floor was not cleaned the entire length of stay, resulting in a piles of sand higher than the garbage found under the bed. 3. The key card had to be reset ALL FOUR DAYS that we left the room and returned after lunch. When I asked about why this happened, I received these glowing responses: “The card must have gotten wet,” “The card must have touched a credit card,” “The card must have touched a magnet or something,” “It happens sometimes.” 4. We didn’t receive any shampoo in our room until the 3rd day. 5. Twice the room wasn’t cleaned until very late in the day, and only after we mentioned it to the reception staff. 6. The beds were too short for a normal-sized human. I’m six feet tall and when I laid on my stomach, my feet hung over the end of the bed. I felt like a child.
