The hotel layout is a maze of old rooms and hall ways. i was directed to my room which was on the third floor. I had to navigate through four doors and twist and turns in narrow hallways to find an elevator that did not work. I was at the hotel for 3 days and the elevator never worked, though I mentioned it several times. The bath was very small. The soap provided was liquid and smelled of turpentine. Two of the three lights in the room did not work. In summary I was very disappointed with this hotel.

My wife and I have been to Europe 27x.... We have stayed in all types of hotels..... We like to think that these experiences give us some credibility when it comes to evaluating hotels......In regard to the Vanderbilt, it is located 1 block from the tube stop, Gloucester Road...Nearby is the Wait Rose Supermarket where we got our breakfast fruit, wine, etc.... Did I already mention location? Nearby on Gloucester Road is Da Mario( Italian restaurant) where Princess Di took her kids for pizza...we ate there too!... Getting back to the hotel itself, the room was clean and neat.... It faced the street( Cromwell Road) which is very very busy and noisy. Nevertheless, our room had double windows, making it very quiet inside. In fact I never heard any noise at all! The bathroom was recently modernized and was great.... I would rate the room as B+ to A- because it claimed to be a 4 star hotel... When I read reviews by my fellow countrymen I am amazed that they judge Euro rooms by American standards... This room was slightly bigger tan other Euro rooms that we have stayed in.... We got this room as part of a package so I can't really say if it were a value or not... Overall I give the place an A- and say that if you want a great area, near the tube, the V+A Museum, Harrods, etc.. give it a go... Also In this area we have stayed in Millenium Baileys.. right across the street from the Gloucester road tube.. This place is better... But you also might want to look into Hotel Rembrandt on Cromwell Road almost opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum.... SW London (South Kensington, Chelsea, Belgravia, etc.) I feel are the best places to stay in London. I hope that this helps you and pray for good weather in London!

Great staff. Darius checked us in early. I think he could tell we had been on the road a long time. The hotel is just around the corner from the tube and on the hop on hop off route, so getting around is easy. I thought breakfast was included but not when booked with a third party, but there are many dinning options in the area. The shower was tight but the rest of the room was fine. We got two twin beds rather than a full but I was to tired to complain when we got in, and it really was not a big deal.

After a long day of traveling I was in an admittedly foul mood, but the very helpful person at the check-in desk made it difficult for me to remain that way. It was a nice start to a nice stay.

My friend and I went to London for the week this summer and had an absolute amazing time! The hotel was like a 3 minute walk from the Gloucester tube station which was also right across the street from a Burger King and we loved that! The room was pretty tiny but it served out needs because we only needed a place to sleep so we made it fine. I would recommend upgrading to a king size bed if you don't mind sharing though because we had two twin beds and they were a little rough. But other than the tiny beds that were a little uncomfortable this hotel was wonderful!
