I had to put in a good word for the hotel. I stayed two nights pre-cruise. Having booked through a discounter, I was given a partial ocean view. The room reminded me of the furniture and bathroom tiles that were in my Grandmother's house (remember the inlaid soap dish?) The room was adequate for the one night but I requested to be moved to an ocean view the next day. What a difference! So my advice to anyone booking here is definitely, pay the extra for the Ocean View Room. It was bigger, the tv was better, the bathroom was bigger, it had a refrigerator/mini bar (did the first room? I really don't recall). And of course, The View was so much better. I see they also have a jacuzzi room upgrade from the Ocean View as well as a Penthouse Suite; those I can't speak about. As for the staff, they were all so nice to me. The room attendant helped me move to the new room and later, when I had tangled the new hair curler I'd bought at the CVS (just up a couple of blocks) in my hair, took the time away from her cleaning to help untangle me. (No small feat! I was just about ready to cut it out with my scissors!) She was wonderful, giving me advice how to use that curler next time to avoid entanglement! The front desk and the pool bartender were all very nice to me and pleasant. So I just wanted to put in a good word. Bring hair conditioner; they have shampoo only. Liked the pool area/hammock area a lot.

Do not stay at this hotel. The beds are horrible. The carpets are ratty and look like the were pulled out of a land fill. The air conditioning system is barely adequate. The doors to the rooms have Large vents in the bottom, you can hear everything going on in the hallway and in the room across the hallway. I'm all for historic preservation but The Marseilles should be bull dozed. The only reason I'm here is because of a convention I'm attending and the fact that everything else is booked. Can't wait to go home. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

I TOOK MY HUSBAND AND 10 OF HIS FRIENDS TO MIAMI IN CELEBRATION OF HIS 29TH BIRTHDAY. THE HOTEL WAS GREAT. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS BEYOND WHAT I EXPECTED. THE POOL WAS LOVELY. AND IT'S ONLY 3 BLOCKS FROM LINCOLN DRIVE. ALL OF US HAD A GREAT TIME. THEY ALSO PROVIDED US WITH LIMO SERVICE TO DINNER. THAT WAS A PLUS. FOR THE PRICE WE PAID I WOULD RECOMMEND IT. AND HONESTLY, WHEN I DO RETURN BACK TO MIAMI I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN. =D

You know how chains like Choice Hotels have a ""range"" of properties from the very basic but clean and newer Sleep Inns to their top of the line Comfort Suites...but with a host of Comfort Inns in the ""middle"" that could be hit or miss depending upon what part of a given city, property age, etc.? Well, the Marseille, along with MANY of the other historic building hotels in Miami Beach, falls into that ""middle category"" --- meaning that if you're looking for a Ritz, Marriott or even Comfort Suites level of decor, this ""ain't"" it. On the other hand, frequent travellers will know what I mean when I say that the Marseilles is sort of like one of those older Sheratons; it still has the basics (decent lobby, nice pool, GREAT beach access ), but it's a little worn around the edges. That said, we had a lovely time! The room (Deluxe Ocean ""View""- slightly blocked by another bldg.) was certainly clean, and the decor matched the online photos. (Fair warning- the photographer must have used some special ambient lighting to give a warm yellow glow to the picture. In reality, the walls- except for one- are stark white.) As noted by other reviewers, the bathrooms are Very small with the same tile that's probably been there since the 1970's-- old but clean. Finally, the service (housekeeping, front desk) was wonderful. Granted, we tipped the maid a five-spot on the first day, but we had no trouble getting extra towels and an extended checkout (requested a day before our departure) and taxis when needed. It was a great local and enjoyable stay!
