I've stayed here many times for business trips and will keep coming back. The hotel is one street over from the Maritime Museum and the harbor, and is about a 20 minute walk to the Gaslamp District. Little Italy is two streets away. Overall I think it is a great location as it is very close to downtown, but with a little less of the hustle and bustle. The rooms are clean, as is the rest of the hotel. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are good. In the evening you can sit out by the firepit next to the pool. There is a train track right behind the hotel. Most of the noise from the trains is during the day. At night it's quiet. The parking spaces are on the small side, and the parking lot does get full if the hotel is busy.

Stayed in a 2bed/2bath suite. Great idea traveling with teenage boys. The hotel offered free shuttle service to tourist sites within a 3 mile radius. We could visit the Zoo, Gaslamp, Seaport Village/Ferry, Petco, Convention Center, and Old Town. We could walk to the Bay and Little Italy.
The staff was very attentive and extremely pleasant. Room was clean and spacious.
There was some train noise behind the hotel--they do offer earplugs if you're a light sleeper.
We have stayed here on 2 different trips--once in 2007, once in 2008--and will book here again on our next visit to San Diego.
