I would not recommend this hotel for your San Francisco visit. The staff was unprofessional and unattentive. I was traveling for business and when I pulled into Valet, although 2 guys were having a discussion among themselves, they did not come to assist me with valet or my bags. I had to engage them at the entrance and take my bags in myself and register at the front desk. The room was dusty and dirty with many old carpet stains. I had to pay extra for any usual perks. Not impressed for a 5 star hotel experience.

I don't have much experience with most SF hotels, I've just stayed at the Palace Hotel, Palomar, and the Fairmont. Palace is still my favorite, but it's expensive for a budget traveler like me. We decided to try the Fairmont because of a good deal we saw online and were pleasantly surprised at the classic-style beauty of the hotel. The one BIG drawback to the cheaper rooms, is that there is no view (just a wall). Although a view would have been great, we ended up not staying long in the room anyway, so it was a minor drawback. Other than that, clean room, fun restaurant/bar (Tonga Room), close to Union Square and cable car lines, and overall fantastic experience. I would stay here again and I would recommend to others.
Christmas spectacle galore at this iconic hotel. the tree in the lobby, the gingerbread house, fluffy bed & the breakfast buffet..perfect!

if you are going to be in the Nob Hill area, this is a great place. It's classic San Francisco, and don't forget to check out the lounge and rooftop garden areas. DO NOT try to walk from downtown, it is at the top of a VERY steep hill - take a taxi!
