We went during spring training when rates are high everywhere in Scottsdale and Phoenix. This Days inn was very affordable and near the 10/17 interchange so it was easy to get around. Although near the freeway the room was relatively quiet. I'm sure at one time the grounds and hotel was beautiful as shown by an old picture of it in the lobby. The whole place appears a bit neglected and various hallways had various smells (besides smoke). But the staff was friendly and helpful, the morning continental breakfast was over an above for a low priced hotel with biscuits and gravy. And as stated earlier, for the peak season was very inexpensive and all things being equal, a decent enough value!

I booked this room through my TripRewards for its proximity to our motorcycle tour route. First appearances is decent with interior rooms. However, upon check-in, I was asked for a photo ID so the desk clerk could make a copy! Desk clerk said it was required for the police! I balked at this and the clerk just viewed my ID. Had it not been so late in the day of arrival, having plans to meet up with family in a short while, we would have left right then & found other accomodations further along the route.

First, they accidentally booked me into an occupied room. No problem- they re-assigned me to an unoccupied room. The lobby smelled old and dirty. Halls smelled like cigarette smoke & poorly lit. My wife thought it smelled like a nursing home. The room was large and fairly clean, and didn't smell. At 12:30am, people were trying to get into our room. I suspect they were booked into our room by mistake. Then at 2:30am, we awoke to the sound of a dustbuster vacuum just outside our door. Thin walls-we could hear our neighbors unzipping suitcases in the middle of the night.
