Great location, good value but nothing special. I had a double double and the beds (both of them) were SO uncomfortable. I was on a business trip, so it was a short stay. I don't think I would stay there again if I was returning for a leisure trip.

We are newbies at staying in a big city, downtown. This was our first experience doing that and downtown Chicago is BIG. We chose the Allerton after calling the Chicago 800 number to help you find a place to stay. We asked for information on places to stay downtown, very close to or on Michigan Avenue. We chose the Allerton and are very happy we did. Staying in downtown Chicago in a nice hotel has less amenities than what we're used to at cheaper hotels in smaller cities. I would think it's not just the Allerton that is missing some things, like, the Allerton does not have breakfast included in the room price and no free parking. My goodness it was expensive to keep our car in the Allerton parking garage for two days (approx. $*/day). We could have parked two blocks away from the hotel in a Self Park lot for less, but we chose not to. Even though we spent more money than we wanted, we loved the Allerton. The room was beautiful, the bedding was luxurious (high quality sheets), the bathroom was great except for the large showerhead (rain) that I don't like, there was a room safe, the cooling/heating was quiet and easy to control the right room temperature, To top it off, we had a wonderful surprise when we discovered an iPod radio by the bedside. We stuck on our iPod and listened to our own music. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was nice with upscale decor, but the food was expensive. The Allerton's location is great - we walked all over downtown Chicago in two days.

The overall price was excellent especially for the location - rooms are small, but perfect for a few nights - nice decor, clean, "efficient", nice bathroom. The lodging price per night is great, but remember to add in overnight parking fees!!! To be fair, the valet parking was conveinent and parking prices appeared to be competitive for location - just was surprised parking fee was almost 50% of hotel price for one overnight stay! Great service, noticed concierge service spoke a number of different languages.
