We spent the weekend in San Francisco at this hotel. I can not say enough about it and the staff. The parking was expensive but worth it. We are planning another trip in the next two months and will be returning.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. It's a great location with MUNI and BART just outside the door. Some blocks to the East are kind of dicey at night, but otherwise, I love this hotel! Problem: I ordered an extra blanket and it came up dirty. I asked for another one, and it was dirty as well. A third blanket turned up clean, but it took an hour and a half to get it. I'm hoping it was an exception to the otherwise perfect hotel.

If you don't mind sleeping with earplugs (the hotel provides them) so that you don't hear the loud music from their nightclub situated in their first floor, this is the place for you. I would never stay there again.

I enjoyed staying at the Whitcomb. For the Super8ish price I was paying I don't think I could have found better in SF. It might depend on which room you get, though. My friend got a room down the hall, and mine was better (larger, bigger bathroom, shower head above my head-- not hitting me in the chest). The bed was GREAT, very comfortable, I wish I had it at home. Staff was friendly. Restaurant is overpriced and I personally make better salmon, without charging myself $22. The neighborhood is disgusting with no dining options at night and plenty of derelicts, but you are only 15 urine-evading steps to the metro and freedom. Literally the next station is Union Square, which has EVERYTHING known to man and a ton of shopping and restaurants. It takes $1.50 and almost no time to get there. I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

The hotel itself is interesting. The architecture and interior design is very different than modern hotels and was a nice change. The rooms are small, but that is expected in older hotels. It was clean. The bathroom showed some new plumbing/shower which was good. That being said, when arriving the person on duty at the desk was rude. When asking the representative where to park, the response was that he had just told the previous person in line. (Sorry I don't make it a habit to listen in on other people's conversations.) After making the representative inconvenienced by repeating the information again, we went around to the back to park. Three attendants were there to point where to park, but couldn't be bothered to help with our bags. We were also unaware of the outrageous charge for parking for the night. Use the PUBLIC parking The area is very shady... I do not recommend going out at night.
